The Government thinks I'm stupid and I make bad health care choices

quote:

i currently have a high deductible plan. even though my monthly rate has increased over 30% since Obamacare was voted on, it is still reasonable at $125 (i think) per month. my plan will become illegal under Obama (and my insurance company has already notified me that the underwriter will discontinue my plan after this year, so i have to hope they find a new underwriter or get a new policy)

i made a smart, rational choice for affordable health insurance. the government is telling me that not only did i make a bad decision, but that they know what i need better than i do and i'm so ignorant that i don't even realize what i'll be gaining

anybody else find this fricked up?

"anybody else find this fricked up?"

I think a lot of folks who supported Obama are just starting to realize what the consequences of his re-election are. I am not talking about died in the wool Dems, but more about young to young-ish professionals, mostly whites, who tended to identify with Obama as modern and "progressive" while viewing the GOP as the party of intolerance on social issues. I just have this sense that this group of folks didn't fully grasp just much Obama is in favor of big government, how little he really cares for civil liberties (unless, until quite recently, you are a gay person who wishes to marry or serve in the military), or how he cares more about economic leveling than economic growth.

I suspect the 2014 midterms will be interesting.

I've got a family policy (4 ) where we pay 935 a month with a 3800 family deductible and I recived a letter this past weeked stating the plan may not be available in 2014 due to the affordable care act. In doing so they invited me to meet with my agent to discuss my options. Obviously the new comparable plan will undoubtily cost more, from my own investigation my existing plan will turn into a 20-22k a year comparable plan..

Did you get it through Barbri? I think I may have had the same plan, and got notice that it would no longer be available after this year.

I think you give them too much credit. Too many young people who voted for him are basically ignoring the stuff that sucks and only talking about gay marriage and how cool of a guy he is.

Nope. Too many young people also want the economic leveling because they have no idea what it actually means.

This article explains a lot.

From the article:

quote:

During World War II, the ethos was “use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.” But the 21st-century rallying cry among the young is “We are the 99 percent.” This recession’s emphasis was never on making do with little; for many millennials, it has seemed more about wondering why they had to make do with so little when so few had so much. This sentiment was captured in recent exit polls that found that nearly two-thirds of presidential voters 29 and younger thought the American economic system favored the wealthy.

Nah uh! Obama promised us we could keep our current insurance! He wouldn't lie!

They were going up in price and altering their coverage options regardless of the AHA. I quit them some time ago. The problem is that they have tons of older lawyers submitting expensive claims. And, historically, Gilsbar underwriters virtually denied nothing and paid everything.

No doubt this group still exists, but I have had a number of chuckles when I heard 20 and early 30-somethings remark at the tax increase they noticed on their 2013 paychecks and now we're just starting to see teh insurance premiums. I certainly cannot quantify how many younger voters are starting to reconsider but it is interesting to see people start to wonder about what is going on. The germination of future conservatives?

i had it for a few years prior to obamacare and there was no increase (maybe like $1 or so per month)

my coverage did not change once in the time i had it. i had a high deductible plan, so there wasn't much to change. once i hit my $3500 or so, i was 100/80 for basically everything

Yes! But the government must force you to buy coverage you don't need and won't use to give it those that will. It's only fair. Why do you hate sick people?

re: The Government thinks I'm stupid and I make bad health care choices

i'm sure my rates would go up, but my plan started at less than $100/month and is now almost $130/month, post-Obamacare

at that rate of increase, 5 years before Obamacare it would have been like $20/month or some shite. does anybody believe that?

Well...

You'll be gaining warm&fuzzy feelings by helping to eliminate ... price discrimination!!!

You'll do this by paying for coverages you don't even need, like maternity care for single men, or neonatal care! Ain't it grand!

quote:

All plans sold on, and off the ObamaCare Health Insurance Exchange, must include:

1. Ambulatory patient services
2. Emergency services
3. Hospitalization
4. Maternity and newborn care
5. Mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment
6. Prescription drugs
7. Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices
8. Laboratory services
9. Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management
10. Pediatric services, including oral and vision care

And besides,
quote:

Part of the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) is focused on providing "affordable" health care. This means that those who can pay more do, but most of us will qualify for discounts to help pay for health insurance premiums. While most Americans will pay less, some will not. However the Affordable Health Care Act doesn't promise, "cheaper insurance for everyone". It promises "Affordable, quality health care for everyone".
