That's what I'm saying on the last page. I want a link to this, because this is worth more than $1000 in parts

re: Where to find a gaming PC for cheap?

yeah i just put together a simple build featuring a 990fx board, fx8350, and a 7870 and i come out to $930 on newegg - before case. (i rarely give case rec's since people have such different tastes)

if that dell deal is real, its a hell of a steal. or some really shoddy mobo/psu or something.

Dell

They are having a sale through the end of the month on refurbished PC's. I should have mentioned that it was refurbished, however I've bought from their outlet previously and everything has always seemed brand new.

There is a coupon code for 30% off on their website. The total would be $1,140.30

Not new but I don't think anyone could tell the difference. My experience is that their outlet systems aren't distinguishable from new ones.

At that price, I would prefer a 8350/3570k with a nice cooler, mobo and power supply with a 7950 (for around $980) over that.

It probably has a cheap junky mobo and power supply. Plus you don't have any of the fun overclocking features.

biggest problem with refurbs are your warranty is typically 90 days vs one to three years with new parts.

i buy and recommend cheap refurb laptops all the time, but not $1200 worth of gaming computer

I mentioned the deal I got earlier in the thread. I guess you'd have to decide if you want to sink $1100 into a refurb. I haven't had any problems before but I guess there is always a risk.

I paid $350 before tax and got a $75 giftcard for:

i5 3330
8gb ram
1tb hard drive

I plan on sticking a middle of the road graphics card in it and having a decent pc.

re: Where to find a gaming PC for cheap?

Well of course it is. He made no specifications, so buying his own parts and doing it himself is the best advice (for price and quality).

If he has a friend who knows a bit about it, even better. We all have to learn to do it at some point. Either that or keep paying more $$$ than you should for pre-built.

This board was extremely helpful to others (and myself as I just used the info from other people's build threads to help me with my own).

What advice do you expect from people other than "buy your own parts" or "buy it from ______". There are no other options.

Yeah, too much or too little?

Came out to $380 with tax but with the gift card I told myself it was really $305
