As for the OP question, chances are 98% that we qualify for the World Cup.

The US lost 2 road matches in 2009 and finished on top of the hex. So losing wouldn't put the US in desperation mode. Yeah we would lose our first two this go round so chances are we'd lose more than two but we'll get some draws on the road.

The formula to guarantee qualification is "win at home, draw on the road."

19-20 points is usually good enough for first. 16 points and we'll be scratching around that 3rd or 4th spot.

I'd really rather not be in a playoff for a WC spot, even if it is against New Zealand.
