Can anyone remember the last time LSU's athletic department has been on pace for success across the board?

Football
- New Coordinator that seems to be turning the offense around
- A Strong 2013 Recruiting Class
- Likely #1 2014 Recruiting Class

Baseball
- 22-2 Record, with an RPI of 2
- Dominate hitting and pitching
- The #4 2013 Recruiting Class (Pre-Draft)

Basketball
- Coach that excelled in first year
- New exciting, improved style of play
- Coming off it's first .500 SEC season since 2009
- Top 10 Recruiting Class (with 3 Top 100 players)

Women's Basketball
- After initial struggles, advancing through women's tournament
- 2 Top 100 Recruits Incoming

Softball
- Dynamic new coach with lots of freshman talent
- 27-6 Record
- 1st in SEC West
- Coming off CWS

And I didn't want to speak out of ignorance, but aren't we supposed to be improving in track and field as well?

It is a proud time to be a Tiger. Consistent Winniers across all sports. Add to the above summary...

Women's Softball
Womens Track
M and W Golf
Women's Gymnastics

The list goes on. You have to tip your hat to AD leadership and attracting great coaching.

Track hasn't been the same since Pat Henry left. Should've never let that guy leave. Thanks Skip!

Not being one of the one hundred teams that got invited to post season play is excelling?

According to players, coaches, media and people like jrevonte who actually get to go to scrimmages, yes.

Dumb. Just fricking dumb. But I'll justify this with a response. The team had no center and was predicted to be sub .500 in the SEC from day one. Not only did he get this under staffed team to .500 despite a 0-4 start, he knocked a Top 25 team and nearly knocked off another tournament team in their gym. He also had an RPI higher than almost half the NIT field.

But keep up the weak troll.

He did as well as anyone could with what he had. Also has a top 10 recruiting class coming in. I'd say he excelled.

I hope all those people are right, but forgive me if I'm not willing to jump up and down after one week of practice.

Not seeing a coaching job that doesn't get LSU basketball in either post season tourney as excellent is more reality based.

Doing better than expected in a very weak conference doesn't reach the excellent level to me.

Jones did a pretty good job and exceeded my expectations.

Don't be so sensitive. I'm only suggesting we need more time before we put these grand labels on either Cam or JJ. I'm not saying both will not turn out to be excellent hires.

It's fair to say he exceeded expectations, since expectations were so low. I agree that saying he excelled is overstating it. It may be that our better-than-expected showing in SEC play was a product of the overall weakness of the conference, as evidenced in the postseason so far. Only 3 of 14 teams got to the NCAA tournament, and two of them are gone before the Sweet 16. The recruiting class is definitely a good sign, but we won't know how good they are until they are playing.

Jones has shown three things that most would agree are important for a coach to be good:

1. Recruiting: top 10 class his first full year
2. Player development: look at Del Piero and Carmouche and you have to think he did well with this
3. In-game strategy: without citing every example, there were several times when he made adjustments that really seemed to turn games in our favor

These are very good signs.
