Quality bread
Real roast beef, not Manda or similar
Good gravy

Strangely it's very hard to find a place in Baton Rouge that has all 3.

What do I expect, as in what are my expectations that I will encounter, or what do I look for as in what I think makes a good RB Poboy from on that is not?

I agree. Now I am wanting one for lunch today. Does anyone have a recommendation? The location does not matter - I am willing to drive to get a good poboy.

Depends on where I am. Outside of the 504 I don't expect to be ordering one.

The best solution:

Go to Pokie's and get a poboy sized piece of Leidenheimer bread. Drive down to Dempsey's and get their roast beef with some gravy. Drive home and dress it how you like and melt some Swiss or provolone cheese on it.

You're welcome.

I expect their other offerings to suck because if I have to go with roast beef, then I'm pretty desperate.

Walt, apparently you did not read the 3 required criteria mentioned above.

Pocorello's uses Manda

Haven't found any in BR that are worth driving for.

the 985 has poboys that rivals anything in the 504

Bears in Covington. The only RB poboy worth driving for IMO.

good bread, good gravy, mayo, thinly sliced roast beef, almost shredded

Parkway tavern fulfills this request quite nicely

It's not magic really, or the altitude, or the water, or some kind of Jedi force field. The 225 could have them too if they so desired to.

Recommend a good RB po boy

Edit: forgot about Bears on the NS. Hopefully they haven't gone to shite like the Metairie location.

It's not rocket science. Just like you said if they desired to take the time and do it right.
