Only been a couple times and it was ok. Nothing special but nothing horrible either with the exception on the men's room but George's on Perkins men's room is nasty and I still eat there.

It may get a bit of love for the burgers and such but I've not seen on here ever that it was the finest offered or best in city. And I'd have to say I read as much of this board as anyone.

Sammy's Prairieville, City Cafe on George O Neil or even Jones Creek Cafe are better IMO.

Jasmines on the Bayou
LINK
Get the hamburger steak plate.
Cheese sticks (logs)
Shrimp poboy
Catfish is good
Chicken club

Masons has disappointed me. Been going there for years and i try different items. Burger is good but I can get a good burger anywhere including my kitchen. IMO. Salads there are like eating a garden, catfish was ok. Onions rings are good but not every time. Last time I got the chicken croissant the chicken was not cooked all the way. Stayed away from that. We go back every now and then just to see if they have new menu items.

Skimmed through the other posts. Here's my opinion.
Been once for Sunday brunch with 4 others. We went for one reason. Mimosas. However I know decent food when I eat it. I had the Steak and Eggs and honestly, everything, especially steal was cooked perfectly. I didn't drink much since I drank the night before so I wasn't hindered by alcohol.
Waiter checked in with us often and was pretty good. Place was very busy. Had 2 plates of food come out somewhat cold. Waiter took the cold plates and came back with much hotter food.

Anyway, although not the "Best Place in BR", I have no complaints and would go back.

Here's their huge menu, what do I need to order?

Jasmine's menu

I agree the crab cakes are lacking and etouffee is not that great. (but both better than Masons version)

I am addicted to Jasmine's crab and corn bisque and the rocket shrimp

Same here .. Mason's is far from the best restaurant in BR .. Like Skillet said .. damn good happy hour there and good sandwiches .. Other dishes are just MEH .. They could stand to reinvest a bit back into their business .. The place is in bad need of a makeover .. But the place isn't the disaster this guy described ..

By just reading his tone .. It's obvious that once things got off to a bad start, nothing was going to satisfy this guy and it just domino'ed ... He sounds like he loves to bitch, to me ..

The food has always just been okay to me, and like you said, the place itself is trashy. I can do a hole-in-the-wall with kickass food.. but Mason's is a 30-minute drive for me to wait for a table and eat okay food in a run down old place.

This.

We can go on kids eat free night, get burgers, app and drink enough to get buzzed for under 40$. Best happy hour in town m-f.
The mason burgers are good bc of the buns. If you go there while on Atkins and just eat the meat they are nothing special.

At at Masons today for first time. Got the shrimp burger and was underwhelmed.

Meat was good and cooked correctly, that's about it. The glop of cheese on the shrimp was just bad.

Rings would have been good to great if warm, but they were not , so they wereretty meh.

Service was good. If end up there again will get another sandwich or the regular burger. Oh, and today was AYCE catfish, for lunch......never seen that before.

You would think from the praise it gets that it would at least have a unique atmosphere or some tradition to it, or be in a favorable location, but it might as well be in an old Denny's situated in an industrial park. It amazes me how receptive people in BR can be to mediocrity (and I realize that last sentence may draw me some

Do people really praise it that much? I don't know anyone who considers it an elite eatery.

They do a solid brunch with a wide variety of items. It's also popular for the cheap wings and beer on Thursday. But the regular dinner menu is pretty meh. And the building could really be dozed and rebuilt.

A lot its popularity has to with it being one of the only restaurants near a largely residential area.

I didn't groove on that one either. It doesn't help that after four years, they're still milking a food network magazine article. They need to give that a rest.

The BBQ burger however is always a winner for me.
