Im going to be in Tampa for a week and will get a Saltwater License to fish. Anyone know of the differences in bait choices vs Louisiana? I will be limited on tackle I can bring. Place Im staying at has a pier on the Intercoastal waterway and I may try out some of the other piers in the area.

Trout Bandit just did a little trip out that way. If he sobered up yet, he might be able to help.

Rent a Yak, you can fish the residential canals or bridges (Sheepshead, Snook, Redfish), plus tons of shoreline Mangroves.

Buy this book: Frank Sargeant's Secret Spots, Tampa Bay to Cedar Key

It's got all the information you need to put fish in the boat. There are miles and miles of wade fishing in the area as well, but I was much more successful out of my kayak.

If your on the Intercoastal you must be staying in Pinellas County Correct? You don't need much Tackle. Use flourocarbon leader and a around 2/0 hooks. Have 1 pole rigged for free line and another use small egg sinkers or split shot for the bottom. Best bait will be spanish sardines or threadfins if you have a cast net and can find them(good luck with that from a pier). Most bait shops sell live shrimp and deadbait. When are you going.

Pinellas County Correct?

Thanks
Correct North of Redington Shores south of Clearwater. I believe thats Pinellas.

Going in early June. Sounds like rod setup would be simular to what I use here with difference on bait except for live shrimp. Wont have castnet.

The Redington Shores Long Pier has a bait house on it. Best at night with a falling tide. On the intercoastal throw live shrimp or Gulps under the docks and piers and around old pilings. Snook, Reds, and trout will tear it up.
