I'm trying to broaden my bass fishing horizons and plan to fish Des Allemends this weekend. I'm originally from NELA so this marsh bass thing is new to me. Trips to Cataouatche and Bayou Black have only taught me the importance of clean water since I never found it. Any suggestions on factors to finding bass vs reds or specks and navigating skinny water without destroying my boat would be appreciated.

Bayou desallemands is wide as hell. Won't have to worry about the skinny marsh canals

I was mostly concerned with depth and hidden hazards like debris and crab traps. In most NELA waterways once you get out away from the bank the water gets double digit deep, here you can be two hundred yards from shore and still only have a couple feet of water. Are there any areas that are hazardous to run in. I also usually run at slowest planing speed when in unfamiliar water is this safest practice or should I slow down even though the boat sits deeper in water?

Is this just a temporary weather, water temp, post spawn type issue or a lengthy storm surge, salt intrusion, fish kill type of issue?

I can't speak for Des Allemends specifically, but I'm not sure the bass have spawned yet. I know they hadn't as of the February full moon in Bayou Black. Isn't the March full moon tonight?

We start catching them with eggs before duck season starts in Bayou Black. But the bite has been very strange so far this year. Last time we caught really heavy sacks and a bunch of fish was early Jan. Been hit or miss since then. The water level and temps have been so screwed up it appears very few have spawned. We just aren't seeing them on the banks like we should be, but we are seeing some schools of fry.

What about Des Allemend/Salvador area are they in Post spawn there yet?
And where abouts is the freshwater/saltwater line that seperates Green Trouts from Speckled Trouts. I feel kind of stupid when I'm flipping a jig and pig around pilons and a big bay boat pulls up, drops anchor and starts slinging popping corks.

They are close to spawning now....water has been dirty from the winds. Try the canals by the WMA camp. Post reports. Try white spinners....and brushhogs

I just got the first decent report from that area. North end of salvador, south end of cataouatche. Figure it out.

Bass fished Lafitte area, caught two dinks on a Spinnerbait in Blue Point. Typical marsh conditions yesterday, shallow, muddy water and high winds.
