I did that Harvard study I guess around ten years ago or so. Guy calls me a few months after I send my hair sample in and wants to know about my lifestyle choices. My mercury level put me in the top 5 tested, but he seemed more interested in the other things he was finding. He wanted to know how close I lived to an industrial facility. Currently my office trailer is tucked between a Cat Cracker, Alky and Sulphur Unit which distance do you want first? Them old guys dumped some bad shite in our waters. Damn shame. I was on a dock at one plant and they dropped some product into Miss River. Stuff was like jello, just not as good for you. Dock guy says don't worry catfish will eat the evidence before it hits the monitors. Sure as shite up they came slurping that stuff down.

By trimming the fat from the top and bottom of the fish I would guess those toxic levels would go down drastically. Most of the toxins are stored in the fat of the fish I read somewhere.

If you need a link check your pants..

Best thing to do is eat small fish. Hg builds up in there bodies over time. My daughter was 3 at the time I got tested and loved tuna sandwiches. We were eating tuna pretty much weekly at that point. So it was a pretty dramatic shift in our dining habits.
