Anyone check out the latest issue of garden and gun? There is a short article on the revival of Baton Rouge's culinary scene (can it be a revival if there never was such a scene?). Tin Roof, Jubans, radio bar, port royal, Beausoleil, and Ipo are all mentioned.

Decent article if you get a chance to check it out. Sorry no linky since it's the most recent issue of the magazine.

Any book store should have it, the magazine is from the same publishers as Southern Living.

Read it this weekend. Great article. Particularly fascinating to me is the use of local groceries from local organic farms.

The article was probably the best thing written about BR is 20 years.

I thought the article was pretty good, there was a little too much rote Baton Rouge bashing for my taste. But I did like that he went to some of the more interesting places in town, like Beausoleil, Radio Bar, Hotel Indigo and Port Royal/The Cove. And he seemed to get what these places are doing.
But the article really chapped my wife's arse. She thought it was far too negative about B.R.

reading through Garden and Gun for the first time. Looks like the southern version of the social section of the NY times. except instead of fashion shows, weekends in the Hamptons and attempts to recreate Ralph Lauren print ads in the back yard this one is catering to the kinds of people who attend formal garden parties, attend cotillions and brag about their great great grandfather being a Confederate general.

That's pretty much it to a tee. Think of a guy's "Southern Living". It's based in Charleston and sums up the culture here fairly well. I actually know a couple of the writers on staff and they write to cater to Charleston, Savannah, New Orleans, etc. culture and lifestyle.

Not really. It's a magazine about places to go, people to see, and shite to do in the South. I guess since garden parties, cotillions, and Confederate granddads are part of the south then you may on occasion see references to them. But it's not what the magazine is about. It's a fine publication with some very good write ups IMO.
