First of all, I don't know much about guns.

I'm purchasing a synthetic stock .35 Whelen with a decent scope for a little over $300.

Is the synthetic stock a good purchase? Advantageous or disadvantageous over a wood stock?

what scope and what power?

but if it's in good shape, that sounds like a good deal.

Buddy of mine told me the same thing. Scope isn't really worth a shite but I can always upgrade it later. $330 for the gun alone would be a good price.

I'm not sure about specifics. He said the store I'm getting it from wouldn't stock it with a scope that couldn't handle the gun. We'll see once I get it and sight it in.

Synthetic stocks are often lighter, so you'll feel the recoil more.

Is this the handy rifle for primitive season? From what I've heard, they'll put a thumpin on you. I've never shot a .35 so I cant say if this gun will or not, but the synthetic wont absorb much if any recoil.

I have heard some rumblings that they are gonna stop letting the 35 Whelen be legal as a primitive gun.

Would not buy.

Rumors that Miss may do away with primative season. Just have archery and gun season.

Eta- and if Miss does it, I wouldn't be surprised if La follows in a couple years.

That´s a good deal & ain´t much difference in recoil because it kicks like a mule with either stock

I just bought the synthetic handi rifle in 35 Whelen and put a Pentax 3.5x15x50 on it.

Haven't shot it yet so I can't comment on the recoil.

Can't see how it could be any worse than a 45-70 or 444
