Smart was great all year too. One game doesn't mean anything.

no he wasnt.. I'm not making my opinion off of one game ( said it earlier). He isn't anything special. He has too poor of shooting to be a top 3 pick

eta: and nto only is his shooting percentage terrible, but he doesnt even get a whole lot of assists with only 4 a game.

All of these guys are a crapshoot this year. That's why I'm not sweating our lottery position.

He must be doing something right, he shoots a ridiculous amount of free throws.

I think that's why teams like him, because he can drive into the paint plus play D. kind of like rondo when he started.

He was national freshman of the year and big 12 player of the year

Guys like Durant and Beasely got the same accolades.

Damian Lillards percentages are terrible and he will win ROY. And he's like 23.

There's more to the game than percentages mktinsh

That's all true, but Lillard, Durant, and Beasley never shot lower than 43% in college. Durant and Beasley only played freshman years. Smart is at 40%. FG% tends to go down from college to the NBA.

Even Rivers destroyed Smart's FG%, and that's clearly a weakness for him at the next level.

Smart is impressive physically at the college level...not so much for the NBA, imo.

He has low assists, and while this is just one game, it is THE game for his college career, and I would have liked to see more...especially from a guy that has been touted as the ultra competitor.

If the Pelicans want perimeter D, give me Oladipo all day over Smart.

coming out of ucla, did westbrook have numbers that said he would be a top 10 NBA player?

This has nothing to do with his accolades. He was the best player in a conference that sent 4 teams to the Dance. He was voted the best freshman in the country, better than McClemore, Bennett, Muhammed etc.

Great. a 43% shooter destroys a 40% shooter. Smart averages the same amount of points, more steals, blocks, rebounds, assists, and a better FT % than Rivers did. Since you want to compare players and all...

Right. 4 APG. The same amount guys like Westbrook, Irving, Rondo, Rose, Holliday averaged in college. I didn't think I would have to explain to you that it's a different game in college compared to the NBA.

I guess you think Anthony Bennett and Trey Burke will be busts too considering their shitty performances tonight.

Ah yes, you wouldn't complain if we got the next Desmond Mason

I've only gotten to see his stats, so this is more "convince me the numbers are wrong" than "the numbers are right", but the numbers look significantly worse than comparable guys.

I think bust is going too far, but what if he's like Ariza and Aminu and the shot never comes along? Does he become Rondo instead of Westbrook? Despite not being able to shoot Rondo has turned into a game changer, so as long as we upgraded the shooting at SF it would probably work out.

Marcus Smart is a beast.

Check his game log. His worst games were against poor competition. He had some monster games against great teams.

I would love him as the Pistons pg of the future.

Pretty spot on

I was disappointed early on because it was really the one time I got to see him play all year and because I had them going to the Sweet 16

But the dude will be a good NBA PG. He's big and can play defense (the biggest gripe everyone has against Vasquez). Obviously his shooting needs some work, but he also seemed forced to do way too much for OK St. Put him around some solid talent and maybe he takes less shots and that FG% goes up

Happy with Smart, Mcl, VO, SM or OP. Pels need talent and all of these guys can ball.
