I think it's lame to go pure 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 because I don't think picking the champ means you should automatically win. The guy who gets 30 games right in the first round shouldn't get punked by the office bimbo who went with the chalk champ. Yet, later rounds should be worth a few more points than a first round win.

I also like upset points...in other words, 15 beating a 2 counts for 13 points, plus whatever points you give for that round.

Obvious tiebreaker is total points in the championship game.

But, the biggest question is, how many points should you give each round? One idiotic contest I have been in makes you rank your teams and scores it automatically like that, but that's a PITA to actually think out all 64. I prefer brackets. So, what scoring systems do y'all use?

Meh I will stay with the standard format. And take the chalk champion.

Why have anyone fill out a sheet? Just have people write in their champ on a piece of paper.

Before the online brackets that score for you, we used to do brackets that multiply the seed number by a fixed number in each round (x10, x8 x 6 x 4, etc.). That way you would get more credit for picking upsets early, but then at the end you would get big bonuses for picking the final 4, 2 and champ so it would even out if you picked the winners at the end.

1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 for each correct pick in each respective round.

Plus for each correct pick you add that team's seed to your total.

So if you correctly pick a 5 over a 12 in round 1 you get 1 point for the correct pick plus 5 points for the seed for a total of 6 points.

If you correctly pick a 12 over a 5 in round 1 you get 1 point for the correct pick plus 12 points for the seed for a total of 13 points.

These seed bonus points apply in every round too.

I have found this way to be a good balance of getting teams right, particularly the final 4 and champion, as well as rewarding upset picks.

I've seen it happen plenty of times where someone guesses the champ and doesn't win. Guessing the winner should be worth a good bit of points, considering you are picking the winner of the whole thing, which is sometimes hard to do.

Exactly.

This is a shitty thread.

So you're saying someone who picks the entire Final 4 right and champion shouldn't be rewarded over someone who said 'frick it' and picked two 14's to advance to the Round of 32?

I picked the winner right one year but only had two of my Elite 8 and one of my FInal 4 make it.

If you award for upsets you should also penalize for wrong upset picks.
