What is the biggest position in your portfolio and why?
Posted by ThaBigFella on 3/20/13 at 12:41 am00
It's equal for me between philip morris international and kinder morgan inc.....love PM with the growth of smokers internationally and also on the play of the dollar declining boosting their revenues since all transactions are overseas not to mention a 3.7% and growing yield....
KMI bc we're gonna pump out more oil than saudi arabia in 2020 and this is who is gonna move it underground and it sports a 4% and growing yield
Think Ill hold PM forever
Would love to hear others biggest positions and how long you plan on holding

If only PM could get China to stop making counterfeit cigarettes
GLRIX- because it is a great balanced fund and they do it right. Oh, and because the founder is an LSU alumni.
I know it's a mutual fund, but it is my biggest holding.

I'm too lazy to look at the largest holdings in my index funds right now, so I'm going to say my house.

I've done mostly mutual funds and ETF's focused on the S&P Index, Russell 3000 and a foreign emerging market indexes.
I know, quite boring and it deprives me of the opportunity to talk about the hot stock buy I got into when talking at the local golf course.
But I'm still a buy and hold investor and its working for me...

He's probably been a little more successful than me.
But I subscribed to his philosophy before I even knew what it was. I've held and added to DE periodically since 1988 and KO for over 20 years.

What's DE?
I wish I could add to a stock and not pay a commission each time like you can with mutual funds.

DE is Deere and Company - John Deere. Been very, very good to me for the last 20 years. Everybody hates commissions, but if you make your purchases count, they don't hurt nearly as badly.

So how much $ do you buy with each time? 1k?

You can set up a DRIP with KO and DE and avoid trade fees, however you can only invest using Dollar Cost Averaging that way.
