Being treated there tonight. I think its solid but always have a tough time deciding. I like the mussels and fries. Go to items?

in the words of GarymyMan

quote:

You like the idea of Wine Country, you like the menu at Wine Country, but you don't actually like the taste of the food. You eat it, telling yourself the kitchen's having a bad night, or that you got the only fatty piece of duck in the fridge, but you know the truth: the chef just isn't that good and the ambitious menu is too much for him.

That might be it. But it seems it just has to be good.

Dammit Gary. He's right, but there's something special about being able to just stumble home.

No. Gary is spot on. For some reason this place does seem like it should be good, but it just isn't. I don't get that vibe at other places that suck - if it's bad, oh well, some places are just bad. But Wine Country has an interesting dynamic and Gary nailed it.

For one thing it has a great atmosphere. It reminds me of Digiulio Brothers in Baton Rouge. It's always crowded with people having fun, and you always see people you know. I went to Digiulio's a couple of weeks ago. It was not the best meal I'd ever had there, but as always we had a great time.

Not to hijack the thread, but what's this I see about a new Bella Fresca? I'll be in Shreveport next week and I'm plotting my eating strategy. I know I will definitely try Frank's.

I haven't been in several months but the shrimp & grits is always solid. Every time we go, we have a great meal. I don't get all the 'meh' responses.

Yeah it won't be open by next week but it'll be outside the 12 Oaks neighborhood near the end of the 3132 extension. Right now, they just built a 2nd Wine Country which is right next to where the new Bella Fresca will be, but I believe the Wine Country is only a store.

And yeah, you have a good description of Wine Country - I do like to go drink there for all those reasons - I've given them 3 cracks at dinner though and theyve officially struck out with me for good.

So this will be a 3rd Wine Country? There's been a Wine Country behind Outback on Line for several years now.

I think they closed the Ashley Ridge location and moved it to the 12 Oaks location. I don't think Ashley Ridge is open anymore.

I've yet to go to the new location. I'll probably check it out tomorrow though, or sometime soon since my new office will be closer.

Ah damn. I had an old childhood friend that worked there. Wonder if he kept his job.
