I know its not popular right now, but i agree with him. Lewis and greer are a pretty damn good tandem. What happens to greer if you sign nnamdi? I think the money should be focused elsewhere.

I'd be fine either way. I agree about focusing more on the draft though. We seem to target free agency and trade away draft picks like it's nothing. They seem to strike gold in later rounds and UDFA though so I can't complain too much I guess. I would just like to see a superstar come from the first round instead of serviceable starters.

We have tried to draft corners and they've all been duds. Robinson, Jenkins, Porter (injuries), Usama Young, etc.
Asomugha would be an upgrade and though he had two down years in Philly (where he played a different scheme and not to mention the entire D was a dumpster fire), there's a reason he was an all pro four times.

Sorry, going to disagree. Brees isn't getting any younger and they need to take advantage while the window is open. Veteran players can give you that immediate impact to win in 1-2 years.
Besides that, it's not like they went out and blew a ton of money on big name FAs, they sat back and waited to see the good deals to be made.

Well the thought process is that theres no way we get enough guys ready to win now in the draft. Maybe we get 1 or 2 if we're lucky, but 0 is as likely as any scenario. I'm fine as long as we make smart contracts and don't give out bad ones like the Smith, Vilma, and Harper deals.

its asinine because the Saints are in win now mode and saying frick the future. For good reason. Do what it takes to win as much as possible for the next 6 years and we'll worry about what happens after that when it gets here.

The guy had a freaking o-line coach running his defense.
We have a handful of years left with Brees and our offensive nucleus probably has 2 years left before we have to revamp it.

I'm a bigger fan of signing proven free agents over drafting unknowns, however in this case I tend to agree with this article at least in regards to signing NA. If he signs, it will definitely be an upgrade, but Lewis and Greer should be a solid tandem. That money could be used to fill other major holes on the defense and offense.

Greer has been getting absolutely torched lately. I'm not saying he doesn't still make some great plays here and there, but he is definitely getting burned a lot more on the reg now than I'd like to see. He's starting to get a little long in the tooth. Nnamdi, while not a youngster himself, adds quality depth to the cb position.

Rob Ryan's defense needs big, physical, press cornerbacks. I love what Greer has done for us, but he is not that. NA on the other hand is one of the best in the game.
And anybody that says you should ignore ANY chance to improve your team, FA/draft or otherwise, is an idiot that should not be writing about the national football league.

Greer is our best tackler in the secondary, but whether it's injuries or just getting older, his coverage skills have declined quite a bit over the last couple of years.
ETA I will say this. Eric Allen and Jason David make it hard for me to get super excited about a CB FA signing.

The scheme change will help everyone in the backfield. I think that there is no way they don't get more pressure than last year. I think that there is no way this D is as bad as last year. And I think having the Boss back will elevate everyone's game, including the offense which will help this D out. They won 7 games with an inconsistent offense and a defense that gave up 7000+ yards. They almost swept Atlanta who had their best team in almost a decade and were in the game against the NFC Champs until the offense disappeared mid-third quarter.
My point is that this isn't Cleveland or Arizona. They have Drew and a great offense. They are a few pieces away from being a great team and competing deep into the playoffs again. I'm a build through the draft kinda guy, but this team needs 1 or 2 impact players on D to be in the double digit wins again.
