A guess this damn thread will just never die. Rant gotta rant.
Players improve, he was out last year for the most part so that means he has had two years to improve. But I guess that isn't possible?
Aren't the players saying good stuff? Aren't the coaches saying good stuff? Could it be? I say yes!
Or could it be that he will never be the starter? Could it be that maybe just maybe LSU needs a backup at that position? Could it be that Welter is getting reps so he can learn? Could it be like is written in the ancient textsss that this is just spring ball and maybe just maybe they are trying people out in various roles in case someone gets injured?
You have to ask yourself, could it be?

can't wait to see him in the middle putting the smackdown on. Was going head to head with Minter for that spot before became ineligible. Might have beaten out Minter. Can he be better than Minter?

Don't know if this has been said yet but the last time his LSUsports bio was updated was 7/09/2012 and it states, "Solid linebacker who will backup Kevin Minter at Mike linebacker in 2012 ... Also a major contributor on special teams ..." Don't remember how he did in fall practice but thought that was interesting, predating his suspension.

That is actually a nice point. It's the tackle's job there to occupy a double team and he did not. The guard came off him and got to the MLB.
Welter is able to come off that block and make the tackle. Not a thing of beauty, but if you are going to condemn an LB, don't do it for one where he takes on a block and makes the tackle.
God knows, we all got an eyeful of plays where Te'o was unblocked, yet whiffed on the tackle.

21 pages for a dude with 5 total tackles in his career. Almost hyped as much as Schiambre in baseball before the season started.

As for our staff's competence to select players to play, I'm willing to invest as much in Chief to select LBs as any position coach in (perhaps) the history of our program.
Even if I think he needs to rethink his 2-minute/prevent D some, I feel pretty confident in his ability to assess, develop, and select LBs.
