I liked it. If you hate all new horror, you won't like it. But it's better than most.

It's too bad the omen was ruined in 2005 with a shitty remake

I do not. I enjoy most horror.
...You should check out Identity and Snowtown Murders.
Identity is horror/suspense/thriller.
Snowtown Murders is somewhat realistic horror...creepy stuff.

Splinter
Megan is Missing(Warning, cringe worthy real situations)
Cabin in The Woods
The Collector/The Collection
V/H/S
The Bay
The ABCs of Horror were too over the top/comedic to be horror. More WTF than scary.
I've heard good things about The Loved Ones too, haven't seen it yet.

I watched this tonight. Holy crap. We talked about it for an hour afterwards and this is the kind of movie we'll remember for a while
Glad I could help. It's definitely a bit of a thinker's movie, and it seems it was perfect for you!

I'll agree that V/H/S was MASSIVELY disappointing. I wanted that movie to be so awesome, and it definitely fell pretty flat for me. I enjoyed maybe 2 of the 5 stories.
I enjoyed Session 9 pretty well..saw it a couple years ago. As an FYI, it's also where this popular Caruso gif comes from:
I'll agree on House of the Devil as well. I watched it about a month or so ago (see this thread). I liked it, but if the OP said The Strangers was slow and he fell asleep, then HotD may not be for him...the buildup in that one is excrutiatingly slow. Nothing really happens until the last 15 minutes or so of the movie. But the setting is definitely creepy and it's a great homage to the horror flicks of the 70s/early 80s.
Also would recommend Black Death. It's not a horror really, just more dark (as discussed in that thread I linked). But it was really good. Plus, it has Sean Bean in it, and he's awesome.
Search the site; there have been some good horror recommendation threads in the last year or so. (I'd use google rather than the piece of shite search function on this site though)

Not a horror fan at all, but think Session 9 is a great movie. It's under the horror genre, but I'm not sure how it fits among others in the genre. A more seasoned horror fan will have to chime in on its horror elements.

If you can take foreign films:
Them, (or Ils)
French film, really brilliant, and better then the remake.
On that note, Rec is solid entertainment, also better than the American remake.
Also for something vastly different in the zombie genre, I thought They Came Back was brilliant. It's not a horror per se, but that depends on how you look at it.
Also, 1979's The Changeling with George C. Scott is one of the better haunted house movies of all time.

Just bought those three.
Megan is Missing seems like it has kind of a Poughkeepsie Tapes feel to it. The Bay I feel like I could be disappointed in, but it looks interesting enough. And Loved Ones, I saw the trailer for that one a while back but forgot about it. I'm glad I saw it again in this thread.

That's one listed in the thread I linked. Great movie. It's what The Strangers was based on/remade from. I actually LOVED The Strangers, but Them is definitely better. Fantastic movie that does a great job with creepiness/tone.
