they may be the same list price but if you want a little bit at some point you will probably find the download much cheaper.

I'm dumb because I think the identical products with one not having to include packaging should cost less?

If they cost the same, what is the advantage of buying online?

I avoid hard media of any kind. Started doing that around 2007. Don't see the point any more besides creating a heavy box I'll have to carry every time I have to move. Plus, if I need a DVD I can have it mailed in a day and return it.

Immediate access, convenience. I'm assuming it'll have faster load times.

Well you do not have to pay tax.

Also you can gameshare and split the price.

On the other hand, you can buy it for 30 bucks on ebay if you can wait a week after the games release.

Not for the PC, most games have a code with them.

I would think that with no packaging, shipping, stocking cost they could be cheaper, but on the other hand prices haven't really gone up much over the years so I am ok with it.

There are tons of serial code generator sites.

You are a hair away from just downloading the game illegally at that point. Don't know anyone who splits the baby at that point, generating a key but not stealing the game.

If Ford figured out a way to cut costs on the F150 and still keep the same quality, would you expect them to slash the price of the vehicle as well?

Games are priced at market value, the supplier has no obligation to pass on cost saving measures to the consumer.

Obviously its not Sony/MS/Valave's problem, but it also takes away any re-sale value.

So it might cost you a dollar less to not get a case/box and a disc

Well I would like to see their pricing breakdown, but I would assume that they are passing down more than a dollar to the customer for the case/box/disc.

I agree, simply because the production cost is lower on a downloaded game vs. the hard copy.

Makes little sense from a marketing point of view IMO.
