First you say Gallet and Wilson are younger, then you say we need veteran leadership. Which is it?

The point is that Butler is a year older than Galette and Wilson and just as unproven. He is neither a veteran leader nor a young proven player. You are just signing a guy who is really no different than the 2 guys you already have, but a little older. Age alone doesn't make someone a veteran leader.

Victor Butler is a very good young player, who was stuck behind 2 very good starters in dallas.

When he played, he produced. Very good pass rusher. Very natural 3-4 linebacker. And he's like 25. If he makes a visit here it'd be stupid to let him leave imo, with how little depth we have in terms of pass rushers on the roster.

Again, how is any of this different than the two 24 year old very good young players we already have on the roster who were stuck in a defense that didn't fit them behind a young first round pick and a veteran leader? The only thing that can be said is he has experience in a 3-4. But again, most players who play 3-4 OLB didn't have experience playing that position before being switched there in the NFL.

I don't see that that's enough, is my point. I'd even go as far as saying bring in Victor Butler, then sometime in the draft, take someone like Chase Thomas for some added depth.

You can never have enough pass rushers. if we get one in FA we can target another player or move back. COMPETITION is what we need.

Yeah. I agree. "Oh, we have 2 young guys already. No need for anyone else." Lol. Really?

Hmm 2 pass rushers or 4 with one added from FA and one drafted. Let me think about that

I don't think he's opposed to bringing in a proven guy. Just not another "unknown" so to speak just for the sake of doing it.

Plus, if the Saint add another player they like at OLB, Wilson may end up playing inside.

I've really been warming up to this idea a lot. He played inside in college and he, galette, and another OLB, whether it be vet or draft pick would put a ton of speed on the field. He could spell Hawthorne on passing downs and if plays well enough, maybe even take his spot. I know a lot of people think Mingo is a Wilson clone, but compare him to Ogletree. They also look pretty damn similar.

I think Wilson's athleticism plays better outside but he's more than capable of playing well inside too, obviously.

It'd at least allow them to evaluate their options.

At least the teams with most cap space have blown their load... Based on their FA frenay the Eagles and Dolphins would have sacrificed their children for Dumervil

Hypothetically, think about having Galette and Mingo/Jones/Harrison/Butler on the outsides with Wilson on the inside on passing downs. That'd be pretty elfin awesome

Well lets have three unproven players and hope one pans out. Maybe it's JG, Wilson or Butler. If Butler is the one that pans out, you made a good decision.

AND he knows the system and what to do, reads, calls, expectations, etc.

According to Gerry Dulac of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, running back Beanie Wells, outside linebacker Victor Butler and tight end Kellen Davis all finished their visits without any contract talks with the Steelers but that doesn't rule out the possibility of negotiations later.
