South end zone for many years (1969-77). First game ever for me was the 21-20 Auburn game, and the last was a home win over Mississippi State in 1977. In 1978, the west upper deck opened for the Indiana game.

I agree, and that's what empowers our tradition. When USC came to TS, we actually BELIEVED that we could win, and if you would have asked that from just about any "expert" in the country at the time, you would have gotten a chuckle. We did beat their arse, and we did get screwed on a couple of late penalties that kept them in the game. Doesn't matter now, but it's one of the greatest games in our history, theirs too, and just another example of the hazard of playing us in TS.

My first game in Tiger stadium was in 1957.The following year we had season tickets on the 15 yard line, 20 rows up directly across from the band. Hell yes, I remember...I have probably only missed 20 games since 1958. Both daughters were cheerleaders...LSU FOREVER.

Always remember thinking that I was one of only 68,000 who got to see these great epics played out in Tiger Stadium. There was something nice about being able to see the bell tower and the red tile roofs from inside the bowl. Plus, remember - most of these games had an 8:00 pm kickoff time.

It was the last row at the top of the stadium in the early '70's.

Yeah, I remember TS from the older days. Things have definitely changed over the years.

jk, there was something nice about seeing "contests" in that simple stadium, before the football factories, the QB camps, the over bearing parents vicariously shoving their kids into the pipeline, in hopes that little Johnny would, and should be the next Bert Jones, kids learned how to play sports on sand lots, from their Dads, and the biggest, strongest, fastest, of this competition, kept advancing up the pyramid, I'm sure there are outstanding athletes all over the country that are simply priced out of competing

I was there. Good times.
Me too. Smaller capacity but louder than current. More die hards. No Cheesers. Student section wasn't a collection of spoiled candy asses like today. Endzone graphics were much better. Overall a much more "Football" oriented crowd.

The first game I remember attending was Ole Miss in 1959. We sat in what we called the South Upper Deck directly above the Ole Miss section and visitor tunnel.

Yes, yes! Damn the TAF and their outrageous use of the supply and demand curves! It's bordering on capitalism. I'm sure you sell your services for a low price to the most needy.

"I did not know Andy Hamilton is not in the LSU HOF. I'm stunned!"

Wow. I cannot believe this is true.

The most beautiful site in a perfect bowl with no upper decks watching LSU beat Ole Miss on the last play of the game with a Bert Jones TD pass! Anyone remember these years/games?

I was there that night and many others before there were any upper decks. Back then, the "upper deck" meant the south end zone upper deck. I sat in those seats from 1971 until I went to LSU in 1982. I was right in the corner where Jones threw the TD to Davis on the final play in 1972. The capacity at that time was about 67,500 and I thought that was just staggeringly huge.

Something about that second picture in your post seems wrong, though. The south end zone appears to be all one level without two separate decks, and the outside of the south end looks wrong. It looks like the north end but that's not how the real thing looks. Is that second photo real? It looks like an artist's rendering or a photoshop.

Not this one. The old west upper was already there by then. It actually was completed for the 1978 season. But they did have new scoreboards for that game.

Heck I was a child but remember when there was no south end zone seating. Also LSU played Miami in a game postponed because of a hurricane in what year? how about it? what year? Also it seemed like every 5 or 10 minutes Dan B was calling out some doctors number to call his answering service!

Bert Jones TD Pass against Ole Miss to win game

One of my favorite things about that game actually didn't happen until a year later. When Jones pulled it out against them in '72, the Ole Miss fans were furious. The Ole Miss student newspaper reported the score like this:

Ole Miss 16
LSU 10 + 7

The next year, when we steamrolled them in Jackson 51-14, the Reveille reported the score like this:

Ole Miss 14
LSU 10 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 6

I laughed my arse off.
