A worse ending than Mass Effect 3? |Star Fox: Command SPOILERS|

Granted SF:C has about 8-9 completely different endings, I'm addressing the default ending because you can't make any story-altering changes in your first playthrough.

But first off, let me address where they went wrong first. This game takes place after Star Fox: Assault. That game ends with everyone being together and happy. No issues or ties left undone. However, at the beginning of Command, Fox has somehow managed to disband the crew, drive away Krystal both emotionally and professionally, and find a living wandering space alone with ROB. How in the hell? I guess the writers were out of ideas so they decided to make Fox screw up his entire life so you can put it back together in the game? Ah, but here comes the fun part.

In the default story, you get everyone back together, including Krystal, save for Peppy, who has taken Pepper's spot as General of the Cornerian Army. The process in which you have to get Krystal back is by convincing her to leave STAR WOLF's team and her current RELATIONSHIP with PANTHER. How the hell did all of this even come to be? I'm not even sure if the writers know. It makes about as much sense as Krystal all of a sudden falling in love with Slippy. Anywho, if that wasn't enough, Krystal is a complete bitch to Fox the entire time she's with the team, but they work together, beat the boss, save the Lylat system. Blah blah blah.

Now comes the ending. Slippy gets married to a completely random character, but remains with the squad. Falco also rejoins. Krystal decides to stay...temporarily. One day, Krystal just randomly decides she doesn't want to be there anymore and tells Fox she's going back to the Star Wolf squad to be Panther's girl. Fox is devastated and basically turns into a depressed drunk.

That's the DEFAULT ending...

This may not strike a chord for anyone who never played Star Fox Adventures and Assault. But the way they wrote this basically threw everything that had happened prior to the game out the window. It's like they wrote a completely different character for Krystal, which in a lot of ways, they did. ME3's ending was disappointing, but this ending just takes a giant dump on the entire line of canon in the Star Fox franchise. Now apparently there's a dispute on whether the story in this game is canon or not, so they may or may not roll with it in future games (if they decide to make more). But one thing's for sure, this game probably has the worst ending out of any game I've ever seen. Is this the popular opinion? Or was this game not popular enough to even generate an opinion?

inb4: tl;dr

I'd really like a discussion on this. What the hell were they thinking?

They made more games after SF 64, or was this all on game boy?

Mass Effect 3 is not even in the top 10 of worst endings of a game.

Star Fox Adventures and Assault were on GameCube. Command is on DS.

You would never know it by the way people talk about it.

Apparently Nintendo Power claimed that the default ending to the game was canon in one of their issues, but it has also been reported that the developers of Command (who are completely different from the team that made Assault) said that the game wasn't canon in any way. So take that for what it's worth. Another thing that is somewhat worrisome is the fact that the last Star Fox release was in 2011 (Star Fox 64 3D) and there hasn't been any word of another Star Fox game starting development. Rumors are flying around that they could make a game for the Wii-U, but that's all they are at this point.

I loved Star Fox 64. I bought a PS2 instead of the game cube, and this didn't follow those releases. We're they any good?

Adventures got mixed reviews. Some people, it is their favorite Star Fox game. Others didn't like that they tried to make Star Fox like Zelda. It introduced Krystal to the series (she's pretty much surpassed Falco and Wolf in terms of popularity now). I enjoyed it, although it doesn't really fit with the rest of the series gameplay wise. Assault got good reviews. The story was a bit unoriginal, but the game itself was beautiful considering it was on the GameCube.

There is actually going to be a fan-made Star Fox animated series. It looks really good in terms of fan made stuff. They are still scripting at this point, but he's released some previews and I have to say I'm excited for it to come out. All of this research the past few days has really turned me into a massive Star Fox fan. Even if the future does look bleak for the series.
