If you think raising taxes is a measure to balance the budget.

Raising taxes gives big government more of our money to spend, plain and simple.

If balancing the budget helps the economy and creates jobs, then why are people losing jobs under sequestration? (Not saying we don't need to balance the budget, but it doesn't create jobs or help the economy in the short term)

For one, government jobs aren't real jobs like private sector jobs because they aren't self-sustainable. Government jobs are paid for by people who work in the private sector.

So through government cuts, yes, some government workers would lose jobs. But more jobs will be created in the long run when the government steps back and let's the private sector grow.

Is the budget balanced? If not then your question is moot.

It shouldn't matter... using Obama's logic, if deficits don't matter, they can just borrow the money.

The point is "fairness" (aka punish the wealthy). The point isn't to raise tax revenue.

Obama said it himself.
