I read an interesting piece, can't remember who by, about how Alba is the reason for their defensive frailty this year. Not that he individually does anything wrong, but that they haven't compensated well for having a wing back on those both sides now, whereas in the past, they had Abidal and others operating more as auxiliary CBs.

That's a good point.

It seems like Puyols nor Pique (nor Mascherano but he's really never struck me as much better at CB than what you saw today actually) are confident at all in their movements.

That they're having to adjust to the lack of any cover from a FB sweeping back in behind to help if they press may be a huge part of it.

For whatever reason, when Barca were truly awe inspiring, there were three facets that together completely demoralized the opponent:

1) the possession
2) pressuring like wild banshees to win the ball back
3) Puyol or Pique sweeping up anything that you could squeeze through the pressure.

Now, as tough as they still are in the first two, without that third, it's just not as demoralizing to have 25% possession when you still end up with a similar amount of decent chances as they're getting.

They're in for Agger in the summer. I'm not happy about it.

I saw the best players of my generation, all get stolen by Barça in heartbreaking fashion.

Agger moving to Barca would suck just because he's one of those players I think it bad for football in general to not see stay with his team.

They're also supposedly interested in Roma's Marquinhos, but I think he'll stay. After watching their three CBs flub so many tackles in space this year, I can see why they're after CBs with excellent tackling percentages.

The Cesc to Barca drama --when he really doesn't even fit that well -- was when they really started to grate on my nerves and I'm not even an Arsenal fan.

Saw some rumor they wanted Vermaelen. I'd pay the shipping on that deal.

+1

He's fiercely loyal, but superficially it seems he would fit into that team. It's not Agger I'm worries about, it's management. We're supposedly leading the race for Eriksen and a number of other targets. Our finances were just released and we were in the red yet again, mostly due to terminating contracts with coaches/players (Dalglish, his staff, Cole, etc).

At the same time, Agger is the cornerstone of our defense. And with Carragher retiring and Skrtel not fitting into the system, selling someone of Agger's caliber, even if it was used to fund Eriksen's move, would be an epic mistake.

Heartbreaking fashion is right. Maybe there's no use in fighting:

I feel you regarding Busquets I just think he disappears sometimes out there. If the back line is going to be pourous then they will need to score more goals. I may be a bit drunk right now.

Nah, he's just not going to be up in the offensive third trying to score goals like Iniesta, Xavi, Messi, etc. but his role is just as important.
