Knew a guy who fished a lot of tournaments, salt water. He had his center console and half his scalp takin' off by a anchor cable.

Even though it was to keep trespassers off it should have been marked. IMO there isnt any reason for a kid to die because he was joy riding on his bike.

No excuse to put up wire like that. We had trespassers, and that is fixed with roofing tacks on the ground, or chicken wire, covered with leaves. Tangle up their machine, but never hurt anyone.

Coulda just been a cable "gate" strung between 2 trees. Doubt the landowner intended to hurt someone.

I hang an SMV sign on our place when I use them- figure its cheap insurance to not have to pull a new convertible Corolla out of the field.

I heard old stories growing up hunting in Mississippi about old rednecks using piano wire between trees to kill running deer, anyone ever heard of this?

the article isnt clear about how the wire was placed. it says

quote:

the cable hit the front of Goodwin's bike and the teen was thrown from the bike when the cable hit him in the neck.

If the cable was low and there to keep someone out, I have no problem with its placement at all. We have used cable gates like this before and never intended to hurt anyone. This may have been the case.

If it was place at neck height with the intention to take someone out, that's pretty fricked up. even if the kid was trespassing.

The lesson is, dont trespass and avoid these things.

prayers for the kids family.

We had a couple gals in high school that were decapitated while snowmobile riding at a high speed and hitting a tough to see fence line in the snow

There was a kid in Laplace when I was younger died from this, it was one of the cables holding the light/telephone pole. Kid driving ducked under, he didn't.

The guy that had this cable on his land can be in big trouble. Trespassing or not you can't set up death traps.
