Good for them. There has been a few programs recently on the verge of being dropped but were able to be saved by donors. Cal being the most notable.

Doing this may help bring some attention to their cause and give them a chance to save their program.

I don't see anything saving them. It is a huge Lacrosse school, and no one there gives a damn about baseball. All of their athletic resources will go to Lacrosse, which may actually make money for them. Baseball, for almost every school in the country, is a losing proposition.

Apparently this was handled very poorly.

Probably their only hope. I hate top see this happen. Hope they can find a donor to save them.

Read the whole article, it's pretty damning of the university president. She was advised by the school system's board of regents to not drop the sports.

Maybe someone should demand an audit and find out where the money from that million dollar rent-a-win went?

You know its bad when the school's president needs police protection to meet with her student athletes.

Surely Schuerholz can put up a little cash to keep it on life support for a bit, while they fund raise and find other donors.

How much does it cost per year on average to field a CBB team? How much was it that Cal needed? I don't recall it being astronomical.

From the sounds of how bad it was handled, it almost seems like Towson really doesn't want the program to be saved though.

That joke is never funny, fwiw.

Even if a donor ends up coming in and saving the program, they'll look like UNO next time they play. The athletes were given the shaft and I wouldn't expect any of them to want to stay with that university.

Pretty damn sad. Soccer doesn't cost hardly anything for the college. Baseball is a little more.

a word of advice, it's probably not the smartest thing to piss off your most important alumni, and more importantly, richest donors.

that is fricking awful.

So, basically what the University president maintains is that title IX played no role in this, that it was strictly a budget decision, and that mens baseball and soccer made more sense to cut than a couple of womens sports?
