An observation on the baseball season thus far :

Seems to me that when the team scores early they 'take their foot off the gas' and allow the opponent to get some back. (not all games but more than a few)

Conversely, it seems that when the game is close late, they put runs on the board to create the gap late in the game to win comfortably.

We saw this in last years team and it eventually bit us against the quality opponents several times. Seems that we've seen this rather consistently the past few years.

So, my question: Does this team have that much control where they can turn it on/off as needed or is it coincidence that it's just happening that way again ?

IMO, I see more control over offensive production this year than in recent years.

Your thoughts ?

We went 7-2 against our top 3 opponents from last year.

Inning-by-inning runs scored to date:

LSU 10 24 14 10 11 10 22 13 4 118
Opponents 2 3 4 7 3 6 8 8 2 43

I don't know if this supports or refutes your theory.....

We are horrible at scoring runs in the 9th.

Note to sarcasm-impaired: watch the games.

Yeah, I know, especially considering we've batted in the 9th inning twice this year, and we've still scored more runs in the 9th inning than our opponents.

How did it come back to bite us last year? We won most of our big games, and didnt give up a huge lead to stony brook

It's just another example of an LSU fan's Catastrophe Syndrome on display.

Oh i get it. We're supposed to go up 10 runs in the first and increase our lead as the game goes on. Thats a hell of a plan, imo.

I think it is an example of a poster trying to take some numbers and crunch them together and manufacture some sort of point or conclusion that really isn't there or is irrelevant, then posting said information and trying to seem like he is on top of things and in the know.

Right, and if we don't it means we're going to lose all of our BIG games this year.

You know nothing about baseball if you think players have that much control. It's a mental game, for sure, but there's not one player who goes up to bat, takes the mound or roams the field who says, "It think I'll just coast now." If they did, they wouldn't be playing for long.

We get a good lead and run the clock down!

Maybe hit it up the middle every at bat.

It's Jacoby's fault.
