1. Interesting that no one has thrown out the name Nicklaus (or some other previous great) as the reason to be anti Tiger.

I would say in his day Jack was as hated as Tiger. People, in general, aren't fans of arrogant winners. They're much more prone to be fans of someone like Couples, even though hasn't been a saint in his personal life.

You can hate people more for having affairs than others, by the way.

For example, I hate Amy Grant more than I hate Bobby Brown because Amy Grant is a Christian singer whose persona that was created to make her profitable was a lie and she profited from it in spite of her deception and dishonesty.

Bobby cheated on Whitney? Would anybody REALLY be surprised by that? Has Bobby pretended to be somebody he isn't?

THAT'S the difference between Tiger Woods and Sean Payton.

I would bet that most golfers are arrogant little pricks growing up.

The difference is Sean Payton is the Saints head coach.

If he was the Falcons, you would hate him. And probably site his affair as a contributing factor.

You actively root against a five year old playing t-ball? Why don't you root for the dad lightening up?

if the parent were capable of changing his behavior I'd root for that. but that's really not an option IMO

because of that it will be better for the rest of the participants (children and parents) if the child fails

Nicklaus = Tiger

Couples = Mickelson

Would agree that Jack was hated as Tiger but I do not remember (too young) if Jack's brashness and arrogance showed up in his interviews---golf course, I would guess yes but not sure about interviews. Also, I would suspect since he was "Fat Jack" for the first 10 or so years of his career, he evoked more sympathy than Tiger.

well i dont fricking know i cant really control people having logical inconsistencies. it happens all the time. mainly because they have a predisposed like/dislike for something. if you liked tiger before the scandals, you are less likely to dislike him after. if you didnt like him before, now it's even easier not to.

i do know that the shite i posted is at least a couple of fair reasons to not like a person. he treated the most important people in his life like shite. that's not a likable trait. arguing that is futile. if some girl cheats on my friend, we all would call her a whore and hate her.

i dont really mind how people view tiger, but reasons to hate him are bountiful.

Your cheering has no effect on the outcome. So why not cheer against the grown adult?

wow...so any parent that says something to the effect of "my kids the best on the team," you dislike...am I framing that correctly?

no, that's not enough

it has to be a higher level of obnoxious. the parents that are taking credit for the kid's hard work or getting kicked off the field by umpires

their behavior escalates over time too. the parent that is yelling at the ref in pee wee football or little league baseball is often fighting people in the parking lot by the time their kid is in high school

You would be correct. Jack knocked Arnie off the throne and the fans hated him for it. They called him Fat Jack until he lost the weight years into his career.

I love Tiger and his awesome game before the scandal. And so did most people also, but let's be honest here. I've never seen someone fall so hard in all my life, and sadly, it's because of race I think. He is a black athlete despite what he says and that is how he is perceived and the fact that he cheated on his lily white, saintly like, hot perfect wife that just turned off a lot of people like I've never seen before. Let's be honest like I said when there is a lot of men out there cheating on their wives all the time, it's a common theme, but you swear Tiger was the first to do it the way people are acting, pathetic. What the guy has done for the game is wonderful, bringing together people of all ethnicinities to watch a sport once considered and still boring as hell. But this scandal has hurt his game and image in a real ugly way.

if we are talking about kids events I tend to applaud both sides and I don't engage obnoxious parents because those people are generally retarded assholes.

but do I privately root against their children? you betcha. the best possible outcome for those kids would be a torn ACL so their father can move on with his life and let his kid be a kid.

I can see your point. I just disagree with it. Either way, obnoxious dads suck.

I used to help coach an elementary school wrestling team. You haven't seen intense parents until kids wrestling tournaments.

his rivalry with arnie didn't help his popularity...I do remember when he was asked about playing the senior he said something like "why would I want to play against the same guys I've been beating for 30 years"
