In rooting for Tiger you end up also rooting for his father's behavior to be emulated and I think that's a horrible outcome.

That's reaching a little. I can appreciate him winning and not give two shits about Earl, or his master plan for retiring off his kid.

You can certainly choose to ignore his father's behavior and I can agree with you that his father's behavior is not Tiger's fault. But you are ignoring a likely negative outcome.

Whenever I encounter an obnoxious parent I find myself rooting against the child of that obnoxious parent.

A coach and the GOAT golfer have a different public profile. People in Europe have no clue who Sean Payton is. Comparing their public persona is apples and oranges.

Depends on the reason for hating. If you hate Tiger because of the cheating, then you also must hate SP. That is, if you are a logical human being.

I hate him because he cheated on his wife 100s of times. You must not like athletes. Or musicians. Or most entertainers for that matter.

You're painting with a very broad brush. You are assuming that all people within a demographic or career have the same degree of ethics. It's not true.

You do realize that with this logic, you should just go ahead and stop being a sports fan. You'd hate every team in every sport.

1. Interesting that no one has thrown out the name Nicklaus (or some other previous great) as the reason to be anti Tiger.

2. I do not think there is a lot of HATE Tiger out there, but instead it is a media-drivn perception that you either LOVE or HATE someone. In actuality, Tiger just does not conjure of much LIKE in comparison to DISLIKE of him. That is, the only "universal" like/respect of Tiger is his dominance on the golf course---no one should disagree with that. Other than that, you may like his because he's black or because he can get any number of women (including Elin) but not everyone likes this about Tiger. But the reason(s) to DISLIKE him are so, so many, although none are universal including he's too good, he's black, he cheated on him wife, he does not give good interviews, etc. I think when you add it all up, Tiger does evoke responses of sympathy and thus, people will say HATE instead.

TL; dnr: okay---no pro Jack folks in this thread and it is not Hating Tiger but no one has sympathy for him

I am ssuming that a very large percentage of the people who are in the careers that I mentioned cheat on their wives. Most of them with mulitple women.

I also think that Tiger acted like such a primadonna prick when he was coming up that a good number of people wanted to see him get knocked down a few notches. Butthurt people use his affairs as an excuse to keep hatin.

Didn't like the arrogance of his Dad. I've answered this many times here before, and don't want to do it again, but I started not liking him when Sports Illustrated named him "Sportsman of the Year" in 1996, before he had won a major.

agreed. there also comes a difference in team vs. individual sport. in golf, you are fans of players as they are basically an entire entity in the sport. you are a tiger fan. you are a mickelson fan.

in football and most other sports, you are a saints fan. you are a falcons fan. so while you might not like sean payton, you still like the saints and want sean payton to do well because he runs the team that you like and you cant control that. you probably want a coach that doesnt cheat on his wife but you arent gonna stop liking the entire saints organization because of one guy. in golf that one guy is everything and you can easily not like him and switch "teams" to another golfer.

You actively root against a five year old playing t-ball? Why don't you root for the dad lightening up?

Just dont care for the personality he seems to have from his interviews. And like many great athletes or teams, you get tired hearing about them, like Lebron, Bama, Brady, etc.

But the thing is people LIKE Sean Payton. They don't dislike him and cheer for the Saints in spite of him.

Then they lack character and I'm not a fan. I was simply answering the question of the OP. Do you want me to lie? I hate people who demonstrate on a large scale that they are devoid of character and ethics. The idea that 'everyone cheats' is patently wrong. It absolves individuals of guilt. It's an excuse.

If you want to cheat on your wife, fine. I choose not to. And I would consider my ethics superior to yours. It's very simple.
