The less auto bids there are for the NIT, the better the chances are for LSU. These are the teams that have an auto NIT bid, obviously some of these are going to be in the NCAA tournament. I'll try to keep this list updated with how they are doing in their respective conference tournaments and if they won it, keeping them out of the NIT. I'll bold teams that are already in the NCAA and italicize/underline teams that have lost and are therefore in the NIT tournament barring NCAA selection.

ACC - Miami...Tournament not started
America East - Stony Brook...Lost in conference semi finals.
Atlantic 10 - Saint Louis...Tournament not started
Atlantic Sun - Mercer...Lost conference final to Florida Gulf Coast
Big 12 - Kansas...Tournament not started
Big East - Georgetown...Tournament not started
Big Sky - Montana...Tournament not started
Big South - Charleston Southern...lost in conference finals to Liberty.
Big Ten - Indiana...Tournament not started.
Big West - Long Beach State...Tournament not started.
Colonial - Northeastern...Currently in conference finals.
CUSA - Memphis...Tournament not started
Great West - N.J.I.T...Currently in Semi finals. *Note: Great West does not have an auto bid to the NCAA tournament. Not sure about NIT.
Horizon League - Valparaiso...Currently in conference finals.
Ivy League - Harvard...No conference tournament, in NCAA tournament.
MAAC - Niagra...Lost in conference semi finals.
MAC - Akron...Bye to semi finals.
MEAC - Norfolk State...Tournament not started.
Missouri Valley - Creighton...Won conference tournament.
Mountain West - New Mexico...Tournament not started.
Northeast - Robert Morris...Lost in conference semi finals.
Ohio Valley - Belmont...Won conference tournament.
Pac 12 - UCLA...Tournament not started.
Patriot - Bucknell...Currently in conference finals.
SEC - Florida...Tournament not started.
Southern - Davidson...Currently in conference finals.
Southland - Stephen F. Austin...Tournament not started. Bye to conference semi finals.
Summit - South Dakota St...Currently in conference semi finals.
Sun Belt - Middle Tennessee...Lost in conference semi finals.
SWAC - Southern...Tournament not started. Bye to semi finals.
WAC - Louisiana Tech...Tournament not started.
West Coast Conference - Gonzaga...currently in conference tournament finals.

I'll try to update this a few times per day.

Wait, this is a list of teams NOT going to the NIT?

That might be useful if it wasn't so useless

I thought they would be an NCAA tourney team this year.

no not really. if these teams dont win their conference tourney then they are 100% in the NIT because of auto bids. so yes its very useful.

No they're not. They are guaranteed a spot but that does not mean they will take it. Auto bids only exist in the NCAA. Teams can still turn down a spot in the NIT

There are at least a dozen teams on there that will be in the NCAA tournament, regardless of what happens in their confernce tournaments ... so they are 100% NOT in the NIT.

you are not understanding the point of the list. obviously if kansas loses in the tourney they're still in the ncaa tourney. i didnt think something like that had to be said but apparently it does.

Arkansas did a few years back. And I am not getting technical, I was just arguing that Auto Bids don't exist in the NIT if teams can turn the invites down. It is more of a schools choice than Auto bid.

I would have thought people could grasp the concept of wanting one bid league champions to win their tournament.

It's interesting that LSU fans should be pulling for Southern and LaTech to get into the NCAA so that we can be assured of an NIT bid.

So why include them in a list of teams that could "prevent" LSU from making the NIT? It's not like Kansas would turn down an NCAA bid to take their "guaranteed" NIT bid.
