question about turkey calls

i'm new to turkey hunting. why do i see crow calls advertised next to turkey calls? is a crow call a locator call? does it cause the turkeys to freak out or something so they give away their position?
tia, i'll hang up and listen.

They shock gobble on the roost before daylight. I use my hands and my ability to mimic an owl. Or my car door

A crow call is used to try and make the tom turkey shock gobble. This gives away his location.

re: question about turkey calls
It's a shock call used to locate turkeys. They will gobble at it early in the morning.

re: question about turkey calls
Locator calls can take any form but crows and owls are the best in the Southeast. Out West I've had better luck with coyote howlers. I had a piece of property in GA that was adjacent to the main railway. When the train blew the horn the woods would come alive with gobbles. I was known to use a marine grade air horn from time to time to get a gobbler to fire off.

You'll be amazed what they'll respond to. I've had gobblers fire back to car doors slamming shut and it's not uncommon in instances where multiple gobblers come in that when you shoot one the others will gobble at the muzzle blast sound.

When people ask how I've managed to kill so many turkeys they usually ask what kind of call I'm using. I usually let them know that I'm not a very skilled caller but I'm damn good at finding the dumbest gobbler on the property.

The house where I duck hunt had turkeys fenced in his back yard and when I'd drop the gate to my trailer they would gobble.

The wild turkeys brain is smaller than a field pea, so they probably aren't very smart. But they do have one hell of a survival instinct and an extreme case of paranoia.

They made me look pretty dang foolish the last two years.

Next friday can't get here soon enough. I'm extremely angry at turkeys right now.
