| Video Poker Machines (Posted on 3/7/13 at 6:18 pm)
How much on average does a video poker machine bring in total sales to a restaurant or bar? I know a very generalized question, but trying to get an estimate of total money collected before pay outs and before the state takes their 27% Father in law is in the process of opening a bar in the New Orleans area and he wants me to help him in the process. I plan on contacting the gaming companies in the next week. Thanks!

I have no idea, but it must be a damn good situation for most bars. I have friends that have purchased bars and small restaurants recently and I have heard on several instances that the video poker machines easily pay the bills. If they happen to be lucky enough to be making money on the other parts of the business, they just count themselves as lucky.

I know of 50 machines at a truck stop and they take in about $75k a week. So $1500 each.

$1500 each
So that would be: 26% state tax = $390 Gains = $1,110 Based on a 60/40 split before payouts 60% for establishment owner = $666 40% for machine owner = $444 They are killing it with 50 machines!

After pay outs it's about $475. Do your numbers from there.

This is a long time ago, but back in 95, I worked for a pizza place that had 3 of them. Each machine made the company $1500/week.

Did it? Or did they pull $1500 gross out of each machine a week? Big difference.

What about those amusement monitors in bars where people can play word games or "pick out the mistakes" in a picture within a certain time frame? Lots of places that don't have video poker put those in. Do they make any moolah?

I know for a fact that the French Quarter Daiquiri across the river make most of its money off the video poker machines.

I believe it maybe a 33.3% split. State, establishment,and machine owners/rental.

How do you go about purchasing a video poker machine? Are there certain requirements? 33% sounds like a nice split to have when somebody else deals with the establishment

It is hard to just give you an average because it varies greatly from location to location. Some restaurants that I deal with make over 250k a year and some make less that 15k.. I would say the average a location makes from the three machines would be about 45k a year but again that is just an average and the numbers vary GREATLY .. Basically you can get three machines and after the state takes their 26% you split the money with the machine owner. You should be looking for them to offer you NEW machines and at least a 60/40 split. Meaning you get 60% after state taxes. So machines profits $1000 .... State gets $260 .. You and machine owner split $740 ... If you agree to 60% .. You would get $444 and machine owner gets $296 .., You can email at threeputt6363@aol.com if you need any questions answered.

Correct ... Times have changed now as well. Machines averages have gone down big time because there are so many more machines now than in 1995 .. Most truck stops still do very well though .. You have money the machine collects minus payouts minus state tax (which is 35% for truck stops) = profit The truck stops I deal with avg. About $800 bucks per machine profit every week .. Most truck stop owners also own their own machines so they would not split that money .. Depending on the amount of gas you sell at the truck stop you can have up to 50 machines. So they do generate some cash . 50 machines x $800 = $40,000 $40,000 x 52 weeks = $2,080,00 year Of course that revenue is taxed as business income as well. And there is a lot of costs incurred in opening and running a truck stop BUT big money can be made ..

This is correct concerning restaurants and the like that feature three machines; but not truckstops and other facilities with multiple machines.
