Never payed any attention to it, really just gotten into soccer in the last couple of years. So its obviously set up like UEFA Champions League, 4 teams from MLS made go each year? Top 4 like BPL for UEFA?

What countries are involved? All south american pro leagues? Just glancing through it I did not see any Brazilian teams

Who is "the team to beat"?

MLS appears to be a very strong league comparitively, out of the 4 that made it 3 are still in.

How much of a step down is CONCACAF from say UEFA? Obviously anyone can beat someone once, but could any of these teams compete with the UEFA Champ League teams?

Ill hang up and listen

Concacaf is a Central and North America region. Some love to look down on it but I rather enjoy it. The class of the region lies in Mexico as Monterrey the two time defending champion of the region is a solid team. Tigres and Santos Laguna are pretty solid as well. The MLS teams are still a few years of growth away from realistically winning this competition mainly due to economic reasons.

The winner of this competition will get a shot to go against a Champions League team in the Club World Cup, so I guess that is when you would find out.

Qualifying

quote:

The current format features 24 teams in total.
From the North American Zone:
4 clubs from Mexico
4 clubs from the United States
1 club from Canada
From the Central American Zone:
2 clubs from Costa Rica
2 clubs from El Salvador
2 clubs from Guatemala
2 clubs from Honduras
2 clubs from Panama
1 club from Nicaragua
1 club from Belize
From the Caribbean Zone:
3 clubs, qualifying via the CFU Club Championship.[3]
The four teams qualifying from the United States are the two MLS Cup finalists, the winner of the MLS Supporters' Shield (awarded to the team with the best regular season record), and the winner of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Should the same team qualify multiple times and/or should a Canadian team occupy one or more of the MLS qualifying places, then the American MLS team(s) with the best regular season records not otherwise qualified will be entered.
The team qualifying from Canada is the winner of the Amway Canadian Championship.

The Mexican teams.

The CONCACAF Champions league was the CONCACAF Champions Cup until 2008 and in total Mexican teams have 28 champions and 13 runners up and since 2008 have it won it all 4 years, been runner ups for 3 out of 4 years and have also had 5 semi finalists.

MLS= Champions of Europe

Until 2011, when Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake reached the finals, each CONCACAF Champions League final had been an all Mexican affair.

Maybe LA has a decent shot to win it this year.

That was an absurd aberration if ever there was one.

It looks like they employ the worst refs.

This is a tournament run by CONCACAF.

The refs are of a quality only deemed acceptable by CONCACAF. We all would be eating horse meat if CONCACAF controlled our meat inspections.

That is a national player of the year candidate.

Show some respect to the man who puts on a basketball clynyk for all of the novices.

You concerned about his awful Canadian haircut.

Those Sampson locks make WCC (and five Big 12) opponents tremble and the ladies swoon.
