Yeah I've googled it but I still have read mixed opinions.

I want to diversify some and start an account outside of my 401k and stocks.

The plan is to put some money I have saved into either an ETF(s) or mutual fund(s) and add to it on a monthly basis (if possible, and if it makes any difference).

Which one of these would be better? Assume initial deposit would be around 10k and 500 dollars would be added per month.

I have both. Just bought my first ETF a month ago and had no problems. Lower fees ($7 vs $17).

If you find a MF you like, see if it has a comparable ETF. VDAIX or VIG is an example.
