I'm sure you guys have seen this, but a recent conversation struck interest. What's the craziest thing you've ever seen happen to a referee?

Ref knocked out

Holy &)$*! Life threatening injuries.

So rare to see a big full follow-thru haymaker style punch on someone who had zero idea that he was even in the slightest danger.

All sports would do well to emulate rugby with regards to the game officials. Only the captain is allowed to speak to the ref unless the ref addresses a player directly. When a player is addressed by the ref, the response is either "yes, sir" or "no, sir". You get penalized for talking back or mouthing off to the ref, and if it's bad enough, you will be sent off.

Things that extreme during a sporting event should be treated as it would on the street. As far as the law is concerned.

Most recent was the ref pushed in the Super Bowl...

Wait, that didn't happen. Never mind.

After Orlando Brown got hit with the flag in the eye it was pretty entertaining what he did to the ref.

RIP

I remember earlier this year when a Dutch youth soccer team actually beat a ref to death mid game. Still not sure how NO ONE intervenes or anything.

I'll never forget Roberto Alomar going full Carlito on John Hirschbeck.

Watching a match a few weeks ago...

The ref: "I've asked you nicely twice, if you don't straighten out I'm going to start getting a little mad."

Player: "yes sir, sorry sir."

Ref: "it's alright. You're a good lad, we've never had any problems before, no need for them now."

I hope that guy was brought up on assault charges and never played another second of competitive basketball in his life.

Good way to end a career. Dumbass.

I don't mind the manager in baseball coming out and screaming at the ump. It's usually good for a few laughs.

That shite in a soccer match is ridiculous when there are multiple greasy euros in the ref's face waiving their hands around and crying. Even when the call is so bad it looks like the match is fixed, the histrionics are annoying.

I don't mind this. Most managers are elderly men.
