After losing Mapes last tuesday for the year, Napoli leaves the game tonight while warming up before the second inning. Thats five pitchers they have lost due to injury .. Didnt think it could have gotten worse than last year but I guess I was incorrect .

Massey is hurt, would be 3-4 starter if healthy.

Brutal. They seem to have good team this year.

Byo is the Saturday guy and Wilson has been doing middle relief. Napoli was scheduled to throw 2 innings only but threw a bunch of pitches in the first inning. Word I got is there was no injury, coaches debated about letting him pitch another inning and decided not to. During the 1st inning, the freshman pitcher Rankin was already warming up to come in.

Putt you gotta leave the wife home, leaving after the third inning......really!

They're not good, but could be a regional team if they start hitting.
Pitching is really good, especially if they can all get healthy.

what the hell does Tulane do to their pitchers? They seem to have extremely high attrition rates amongst pitchers year in year out.

Rick is my parents' next door neighbor, but I have a feeling he wont be for long if Tulane doesnt make a regional this year or next.

He's actually not under pressure from the powers that be. He may retire but missing regional this season would not get him fired.

As for what they are doing pitchers, many of the injured ones in the past showed up with issues from overuse in High School. Mapes didn't throw a bunch last year and hadn't thrown many innings this year when the injury happened to him at Nicholls (4th inning I think). Napoli had stiffness in the forearm, that's not too uncommon anywhere early in the season. Hopefully that's all it is. The conditioning coach worked for the Padres for 3 or 4 years until his wife got into Tulane med school, so I think he knows what he's doing. I wish someone would find the problem and fix it soon.

You already stated the problem: over work by their high school coaches.

Would this season make 5 or 6 years in a row without postseason? Aside from being Tulane why isn't he under any pressure?

for some maybe but not all.

plenty HS coaches actually care about their kids...

I know one school lost a playoff game last year rather than over extend a kid.

sorry for the kids at Tulane, I know one of em and he is a great kid.

I wonder why kids from the dominican who play 365 - don't have arm problems...

Since the university college has vanished(post Katrina).... filling the roster with enough talent to compete is tough with 11.7 schollys and the few that are there on legislative schollys.

We may not like him in BR but Rick Jones is a good coach and a pretty good guy. and I rarely speak well of anything associated with willow street.
