Opinions on the Henry .22 mag lever action rifle. I want a rimfire to hunt hogs the couple weeks it's open on attakapas wma. I really want another lever action rifle. I may possibly go with Winchester also. Never owned a Henry rifle before.

Thanks

Why are you wanting a .22 mag to hunt hogs?

Or is it a typo and you meant to put dogs?

I use a browning 22 mag so I think the henry would be okay...the golden boy is a solid gun

Can't use a center fire on the wma. Buddy of mine has one and killed plenty last year with a perfect shot of course. It's all that is legal I believe maybe I should read regs again better. What other calipers are there in rimfire?

17 hmr is a rimfire

I have killed a hog with my 22 LR Henry lever action and dropped him in his tracks. It wasn't ideal but he died just the same.

Of course I wasn't hog hunting, the opportunity just presented itself.

DST,
I don't own a Henry, but it remains on my "bucket list" of guns to someday own. The one's I looked at seemed like a quality gun. Not sure about using a 22 Mag to hunt hogs, but sometimes the hunting rules force into doing things less than ideal....

Find a good used Winchester 9422 instead.

ETA: Isn't the receiver on the Henry made of pot metal?

I'm pretty sure most if not all of the WMA's are closed to hunting hogs outside of normal hunting season.

If there's one that isn't I'd like to know, if it's within reasonable driving distance of BR

I have one of these and like it much better than my Henry lever action

They're sweet. Just hard to find one for a halfass decent price.

I don't want it for hunting this year. You can hunt hogs on attakapas until feb 28, during this time center fires are illegal so a .22 rimfire would be the best option to me. Like I said buddy of mine has dropped quite a few with headshots.

Damn auto correct! I supervise a machine shop must have texted someone about calipers missing before.
