After getting over my initial frustration, I can see how the guy could make that call...intent, force, whatnot.

However, it's a judgment call between yellow and red there. He didn't have the best angle, and I don't think he should go straight red when he couldn't see the whole play.

It's a judgment call, and I'm saying that he made a bad judgment. It makes sense within the world's vaguest laws, but I still think his decision was the wrong one. Obviously.

He should have received a card between a red and a yellow

If they had three tiers, these in between calls wouldn't change the entire game.

Ok, I didn't see the match, but I have seen the replay various times and I think it was a bad red. Nani was looking at the ball and anyone with eyes can see that he didn't know that player was coming at him. He was trying to control the ball, which isn't that extraordinary for Nani's skill set. The play could have been looked at as dangerous, but I still think it's yellow at worst. This ref has a history against England and EPL teams. He sent off Terry against Barcelona in last years CL. He sent off Cahill in the Club World Cup final which was horrible. He sent off Balotelli in the Europa. He sent off an England player in WCQ and 2 English players in U21 Euros. All that said, F Man U. If it's anything it's a Karma Red.

I agree with the poster that said he felt robbed of watching two great teams finish a great game. frick that ref. No chance in hell red should have been shown. His eyes were on the ball the entire time. If that is a red so is every bicycle kick attempted in a crowd.

What's all the fuss about? Nani karate-kicked him in the sternum - lucky not to be jailed, never mind sent off.

I'm okay with it being a red. It's dangerous as frick at full speed. At least with a bicycle, both players are relatively stationary.

But if it's a red.... it needs to ALWAYS be a red.

Yeah, I mean, the more I think about it, someone should remind SAF that Nani could have killed that poor guy.

This was my initial reference point. How is De Jong's tackle not a red if Nani's is? I realize these are two different games and referees, but calls should set the precedent for future calls so the players understand what they can/can't do.

Just saw Ronaldo didn't celebrate after his goal. You know, that's pretty awesome. Is there an American sport where a player wouldn't celebrate scoring or making a huge play on his former team?

I thought it was a red also van Persie was offside for the own goal and Rafael had a handball on the line. United fans shouldn't be complaining.

I'm watching the replay of the game now and that just doesnt seem worthy of a red especially with such big circumstances on te line.
