Jesus christ...

Some people don't have a clue what "art" really is, or that music can be "fun" and enjoyable.

you obviously haven't seen them live then. But hey they haven't played at the varsity since 1993. Still better than the deftones

I think RHCP would probably get the nod, IMO. Some of the bands are great choices but might not fit. Metallica for instance could be considered more metal or hard rock. Wilco? There are far more people 20-40 who have never even heard of Wilco than would call them the greatest band of a generation.

RHCP not only are a great band, but they've been good for 20 years and still put out great music even recently. They also have an extremely wide appeal, and are probably more universally liked than the other bands mentioned if I had to guess.

They put on a great show. Better when Eddie was younger, his voice has lost a bit of late.

I would say they are probably the most polarizing of the bands mentioned... people either really love them or would rather slit their throats than listen to them (me)...

Pearl Jam has never played the Varsity.

In '93 they played UNO three nights, kind of past the club stage at that point.

Maybe. I never got the appeal of RHCP but there are a helluva lot of people who disagree with me. Usually listed in most people's top 5 of that era.

I'm with you on this. There are definitely some good songs though.

That may be true, but I bet there's a far bigger amount of people who would do anything rather than listed to Tool, Metallica, and others mentioned than they would for RHCP. Another thing about RHCP is their availability to listen to especially pre-internet. They get pretty good radio play across a variety of different stations, whereas you probably rarely hear a tool or metallica song unless you're specifically listening to a hard rock station. And even then, that same station will probably play RHCP too.

maybe so... but If i had to pick one out off all that are mentioned in this thread (not my choice) it would probably be the Foo Fighters...

Just because you've never heard of their surprise concert there doesn't mean it didn't happen

I feel the same way. I always thought it was because I was female, though (their fan base skews heavily male).

I don't remember that. but then again, i don't remember much about 1992.

PJ opened for Smashing Pumpkins and RHCP at Municipal in dec. '91.

apparently, there's some hate for the foo fighters going on here...i saw them last september, and it was a great show...unlike some of the bands from that era, dave still seems to give a damn about what he's doing...and he still has a sense of humor about it, as well.
