Doesn't the President control what is being cut?

If so why would people blame the Republicans since he was the one who wanted the sequester and decides where the cuts will come from?

There already has been tax increases along with payroll taxes increasing back to higher levels so cuts should also be part of the "balanced approach" right?

The house proposed a bill that would let the president decide where the cuts would come from instead of the cuts just going across the board. It was shot down by the senate and the holy one.

He proposed it as part of the debt ceiling deal of 2011. Where Republicans were going to shut down the government if they did not get cuts in spending. Sequestartion was supposed to be a form of punishment if the Super Committee could not come to an agreement aka do thier job.

Because Obama says so. That's why.

No, no, you don't understand the "balanced approach." There must be balance between taxing the rich and increasing the amount of voters, excuse me, people on the goverment take. We can't continue to increase the latter in perpetuity without a corresponding increase to the former, thus we need a "balanced approach."

The Senate GOP proposed it and Obama threatened to veto it if passed.

So they can blame President Obama for the cuts. That was the only reasonnthey proposed that bill. It would not have made any difference in the amount that is being cut.

So you guys actually don't care if it's across the board or targeted...you really don't want a single nickel cut. Thanks.

I understand that it was a policitcal ploy by the repubs to put the ball back in the holy one's court. And i respect what they were trying to do. But by know you would think they would understand that he isnt gonns do anything and just pass the blame right back to them. The political bull shite in the country has to end sometime one would think.

Nah, not every post.

But saying that the sequester is a "cut" plays right into the DC narrative. The sequester is a reduction is proposed spending calculated through baseline budgeting process. Even if we go thought with the sequester until the end, we will spend more money than last year. So, there's no cut.

What goos are the cuts going to do? They will not make a dent in the debt or deficit. I want the economy to grow, you do not do that by cutting spending when it is cheap to borrow.

But you do it by raising taxes?

BTW, just yesterday, Treasury issued a fresh $80 billion in new debt. The entire farce of the sequester was just offset by one day's debt issuance.

they'll make a ~$80bil+interest dent, and demonstrate that despite the administration's efforts to make it as painful as possible, that it isn't very painful

SO just keep borrowing? frick our kids and grand kids. Just borrow borrow borrow. Are you kidding me. Hasnt the amount we have already been spending and the lack of growth in the economy prove anything to you?
