Too lazy to come up with a list myself, but I'm surprised not a single person listed Mean Girls.

I'd be incredibly shocked if someone did mention it.

what I have heard is that a movie must be mentioned at-least 5 times for it to make the list.

so a film which gets 4 #1s won't get ranked

while a film if ranked high enough with 5 #40 will get ranked.

This is true in theory but it never happens.

First, the minimum threshold is flexible. It depends on the votes.

Second, really a small selection of films gets number one, so that really shouldn't happen. And I keep an eye on things like this.

Your list also has like one movie made before the 1990's to present...the Godfathers.

I take it you're under 20 years old...you should look at other lists and watch some of those as well.

Freaux, you need to regulate in the voting thread. Some dude just listed his top 40 alphabetically which makes American Beauty his #1 movie, so yeah, there's that. Oh and the guy before that has Walk Hard as his #3 movie. Of all time. Walk. Hard. I normally try not to bang on lists too often unless it's just something, well, yeah.

So with that in mind, I think we need to implement some sort of factor in the counting for movies that only appear on one ballot.

I'm gonna let those stand and let Freaux decide how to deal with them. Hopefully, those posters will come back and modify their ballots.

I'll post a notice in that thread.

Baloo - Can my posts remain as long as they are necessary? In the voting thread I mean.

Eh, we can't make judges against quality. If you want to rag on that guy, then I get to rag on people putting Godfather in the Top 10 (so overrated, its quality is merely part of the cultural subconscious now actually) right? We can't just give an assumption of quality to some films and not others. That's not fair, as much as it pains you to see that, others will be pained by your list as well. I'm certain of it.. I apologize for being harsh on this point, but it's true.

There's nothing to keep in mind, the system is what it is. It ONLY breaks down towards the end of a list to get to our desired Film total.

If we are at 170 and we want to get to 200, I'll make the decisions based on a close look at the rest of the votes, and a little bit of personal opinion on what should or shouldn't make it.

Then, AND ONLY THEN, if we are at 199 and I have two films left to choose, one is Baby's Day Out an the other is Dead Poet's Society, will I make a judgement call.

I genuinely believe The Godfather is the best movie I've ever seen. Part II is also one of the best.

I was more just calling your attention to the alphabetical order list and then ranting on that other guy's Trust me, I know for a fact people will have problems with mine

My part at the end about the penalty for being only on a few was to bring the topic back up. I know we had talked about it a long time ago to try to limit the effects of a fanboy making a movie #1 on his ballot and it appears nowhere else and still makes the list.

And that guy GENUINELY believes that Walk Hard is the number 3 film, he even listed a defense. broeho was the name.

I have no problem with your genuine belief even though I think a movie like Godfather is now so ingrained that its quality is assumed, rather than actually analyzed, and that most people like it because they are supposed to. But that's another discussion.

People have many reasons for ranking films, we may not like them, but thems the brakes, including the very non-climatic finish to this list, which, after only two pages of votes, is fairly clear.

For a few of us, that's unsatisfying. But only a few.

Wait until I redo mine. From top to bottom. Again. Haha.

Word.

I need to get cracking on mine. I have all of my lists from the different decades we have done so I am going to compile those plus add what few films I might have from the past 3 years that haven't been on an MWADS list yet and the start ordering. Naming a #1 for me will be difficult becuase that probably changes on a day by day basis between my favorites.

It's a tough call, I had a long process of really finding my top 5, I tried to be as defined as possible.

Asking myself "Which one of these I liked the best?" was too vague of a question, and too hard to answer. So I defined, for myself, what a "perfect film experience" would entail. And I went from there.

The reason Throne of Blood is, and probably always will be, at the top my list is because I think it is the very nature of film itself. It is the filter of everything that came before, and part of the fabric of everything that came after. ToB represents the intersection of theater, film, literature, performance, and history all wrapped in one tightly knit package (Honestly, I think the 100-110 minute mark is stuff of great film).

It's the other 4 that may slightly shift, but I tried to be as specific as possible with my number one.

And that's what I love about this board and my interaction with guys like you and others: while we discuss and agree on many movies and TV shows, you go ahead and name a movie I've never heard of as your #1

Although do know that I will typically take those movies and add them to my Netflix queue for future viewing.
