I read that. In his defense, there is nothing more annoying than a toothache.

So, LSU fans want to be thought of as classy? What a tragedy. Let's whine about it for 7 pages.

The "average" LSU baseball fan, me included, will applaud a good play even if it's made by another team's player.

I've never clapped for a play made by some guy for the other team. Hopefully that'll stop at the Box once the old folks die off.

The old folks only do it because they know the game better than the people that don't clap for the opposing team. I didn't know that until I read it in this thread today.

Sometimes it gets to the point were plays that weren't even that difficult receive applause. Like sliding on your butt in the outfield to catch a high pop out.

Last season there was a good play made by a Mississippi State guy late in the close Friday night opener. People applauded. It was the 8th or so and cost LSU the go ahead run.

And i have no doubt that Jim Hawthorne said, " you see, that's what makes LSU fans so special. They are applauding the other team for a good play. These LSU fans appreciate good baseball."

Frankly I don't give a damn what someone thinks of me who claims he's never applauded a good play made by an opposing team's player, you miserable, bitter little man.

like it's ok to be an a-hole as long as there are others also. this line of thinking always escaped me; the crook that gets convicted gives himself a free pass because others were crooked too. amazing.

sarcasm aside, this statement is probably substantially a fact. us old farts grew up on baseball, played it, umped it, read the rule books, and witnesses many games at many different levels. with this vast experience comes at least a little wisdom and therefore an appreciation for a great play no matter who makes it. baseballs skill set allows this more than football where the play was successful because of about 5 or 6 other guys in the play while in baseball it the player is on an island.
