I, for one, appreciate this thread for the intended message in it. The Advocate never has any interviews with the opposing team or coach (with the exception, for the first time, this past wkend, final game against M.land) The beat reporter gets his obligatory 3 quotes from LSU's stars of the game, CPM's wrapup comments, and that's it. It has nothing to do with wanting to hear pats on the back from opposing teams. I just enjoy hearing what college baseball players from around the country have to say. That it is almost always a positive bout LSU in some form or fashion...I just don't see any harm in it. The whole SEC fan base uniformly rips LSU every chance it gets. Why is any positive press a bad thing? Here, the negatators feel its done expressly so some LSU fans can feel bout themselves. In the real world...or it used to be,anyway, it used to be a matter of showing class. NO. I don't applaud opposing players in either college football or basketball. It's just a baseball thing that has been going on for decades, major & collegiate leagues. OP, thank you for the totally positive post.

As God is my witness, I swear I will NEVER start another thread like this one.

Heaven forbid the head coach of a visiting baseball team say some kind words about bringing his team to Alex Box Stadium!

Sorry Russian, you are a great LSU baseball fan, I understand that.

But you have to understand what is happening here. Way too many people are caught up in the "best fans in college baseball" hype and are behaving in a manner just to have people say that about them. Your post about the Brown coach exemplifies this. To me it says, "Hey guys, see how impressed this coach was with us from his last trip. Let's all make sure to be classy fans, cheer for the other team, be great sportsmen, and then after the game, the opponents coach will say something nice about us." It really has become that some fans at Alex Box are going out of their way to be classy so that people will talk about them.

How do I know this? I see it on here several Mondays out of the season when the question pops up on here, "Hey, has anybody found any quotes from the other team's coach yet?"

Then why don't you start your own frickin' thread about that rather than hijacking mine?

It's good to know that the next time the rant is tearing one of our players and/orcoaches a new one, over and over again, we can count on y'all to be considerate of the feelings of our players, because unlike those unpassionate fans who've been coming to games for years, just so they can say " I'm an lsu fan, see me", y'all really care about their feelings.

I can't disagree that this circle-jerk between fans intentionally trying to create this persona is going on. Because it does happen. However there are plenty enough fans who respect the game and appreciate what it is. Applauding an opponent for a great play does not add to that persona at all.

We circle jerk about tiger stadium at night because it's real: we get drunk and loud and have been doing it forever

We circle jerk about our baseball fans because they have been the best in college baseball for a long time and that's real,( despite some fans that like the camera)

Now were going to hear that BBarlycorn is all fake and
Phony, and our relationship with the locals in Omaha is all "see me". It's just bullshite.

ETA: My last post may not have been clear. By circle-jerk I was talking specifically about those handful outlier fans who think they are above the rest. I do agree with what you said. It is real, and the 10,000+ that buy tickets every game create that reality.

basically because the "attention seeker" fans, use these types of threads as a way to bolster their M.O., so what better place to call them out than in their element

Oh, okay....I get it. To call out the attention seeker fans some posters in this thread sought attention. Makes sense to me....

You're Original post was a great post, but it's just unfortunate that your thread became the battleground for two types of thought over a sensitive subject. I'll drop it. Heres to this season.

If you notice in all of my comments, I haven't knocked anybody for acknowledging a good play. I feel a scattered applause around the stadium after a diving catch might be deserved. I have no problem whatsoever with applauding a pitcher when he is pulled if he pitched a great 7 or 8 innings. But I have to ask, why don't we applaud our opponent when he hits a grand slam? "That was a great swing, man". Why not applaud the other pitcher when he strikes us out with two runners on, "Wow, what a great pitch?"

I think we can be the greatest fans in college baseball just because we show up in large numbers and fully support our team (and other games in our home regionals). We would still be the greatest fans in college baseball even without the people clapping for the other team just because it's the classy thing to do.

As for Stony Brook, do you "victory lappers" not realize that you were giving them a slap in the face? You would have never given a victory lap to Texas, or Miami, or UCLA. But you did for Stony Brook. Why? Because they were a little, no-name school that came out of nowhere. To be honest, I would not have had a single problem with a polite applause as they were walking back to the dugout after their celebration. But cheering for them as they dogpiled and giving a victory lap? Way overboard!

If you go to the game tonight be sure to boo the Brown players when they are introduced. That will show them not to mess with us LSU fans!!!

Well the Stony Brook victory lap was for me what 1-9-12 was for many of the Rants football fans. I may never get over it.

so basically your big gripe is all about the SB victory lap. Like I said before, I'm not for doing that, but I don't have a bad taste in my mouth for those who particpated. And to be fair to both sides of the argument, in no way does that make "us" better fans by having done that.

ETA: I wasn't there. so "us" is referring LSU as a fan base
