That is the Falcons Super Bowl window. By that time I would think that younger guys should be seasoned and ready to take over.

They don't need him to be the SJax of old, they just need him to be serviceable with Quizz and provide a threat in the Play Action game to buy Matt Ryan time.

They are both close to being done IMO

Agreed.

The Falcons are thinking about NOW, not so much building towards the future. It's hard to disagree with that mindset especially with how close they were to a SB this season. 1-2 solid years from Freeney/SJax may be enough to put them in a super bowl.

Honestly they are doing what I wish the Saints would. Cutting overpriced vets, not getting attached, and moving on to the next batch. You have to be ruthless in an NFL front office.
I wish the Saints would just cut bait already.

I also wouldn't mind John Abraham in a Saints uniform for a year, either.

First thing I thought when I read this. I don't see what's taking so long with Smith. The most he should be offered is his cap hit if he were to be cut, plus the vet minimum. If he doesn't want that, then cut him and move on.

Dunta Robinson

I will actually miss Dunta. Even though half his hits were illegal, he hit harder than anyone on the team.

Secondary is a big question mark now. Potentially losing Grimes and Moore with Dunta out the door.

He also seemed to take himself out of the game after every one of those hits too. He injured himself more than he did the other teams WR's in most cases.

don't kid yourself, that window closed the day Sean Payton was reinstated.

Who, this guy?

He will mysteriously get a knee injury again this year, not worried.

You can't make any moves until the league year starts in two weeks. So whether you announce that you're cutting someone now or over the next fortnight is irrelevant.

So long Dunta!!!

What a waste of a jersey he was!

A little surprised about Abraham.

Are they switching to a 3-4?

If they are then they won't get Freeny because he wants to play in a 4-3.
