a pretty good startalthough I never get tired of Tainted Love or Solsbury Hill and I would've worked in Knock Knock Knocking on Heaven's Door by GNR and Billy Idol's Mony Mony.

Smoke On The Water by Deep Purple should be on there.

Total when someone mentions that song but they don't know their other hits like Speed King, Hush, Child In Time ect.

Flight of the Rat another DP classic fave

'SONTW' reminds me of all these classic rock radio stations. There's plenty of good classic songs like that which I can hardly listen to anymore. The way those stations grind the top song or two from each band into the ground is enough to even wear fans out. There could be a good market IMO for a station that played classic rock but play the whole spectrum and only sprinkle the hits in. In fact, most of those bands are what created the AOR (album oriented rock) genre.

Good idea, but who listens to radio anymore anyway?

First that comes to mind overplayed is 'Brown Eyed Girl'. Haven't I seen bands even advertise "We don't play BEG"?

When was the last time you heard Two Princes or Forever Young? I don't think I've heard the Rod Stewart version in a decade.

Probably shouldn't include a cover song.

1. “Stairway to Heaven” (Led Zeppelin)

Probably true, but it is like when they play Shawshank Redemption on T.V. all the time....Once I land on it I just cant turn the station.

also,
quote:

2. “More Than a Feeling” (Boston) Some songs torment you twice. Once when they first become hits and get played ad nauseam on the radio, and again when they become part of nostalgia culture. Like the feathered hair and thick mustache sported by singer Brad Delp back in ’76, “More Than a Feeling” is not even ironically cool anymore. It just needs to go away.
how did they pass on the opportunity to use 'slip away'?

i disagree with this choice and several others on the list, but whatevs

How is Maggie May not on there?

Tainted Love would be my #1. Solsbury Hill does not belong.

I don't think there is anything on that list I don't agree with as far as being overplayed. Some oare classics but some are just "situational" that people think you just want to hear. Or they are overplayed in movies, commercials, etc.

EATA: Not Forever Young. I can't remeber the last time I heard that song.

Basically, because it's a terrible list that has more to do with songs that the writer doesn't like than anything else.
