I've never heard of this purple makers mark wax.
I am a makers mark ambassador and go through ~ 1/2 gallon a week.
I am consuming makers right now and just got up,to make sure the wax wasn't purple.

They produced commemorative bottles after the BCS NC with P&G wax. I've still got one or two unopened. Never seen just purple

On a side note, has anyone picked up one of the bottles with less alcohol? I thought they stopped that idea before it started. I ordered a few bottles for work and noticed they were 42% instead of the normal 45%.

I just read that there are a few batches that were released before they decided not to do it, not sure how many, but it could be collectible.

To answer the OP question, it looks like there was a commemorative bottle made with purple wax after The Ravens won the Superbowl.In 2000. Looks like for this years win, they did purple/black wax.

Although Markers Mark claimed they would not do reduce the Alcohol percent, they in fact made the decision to do so way before they made any announcement. Very few bottles were shipped out with the 42%. May be a collectible one day if you get one. Not many made it out.

I have asked several bar managers and have been told by all that the purple wax bottles are no longer available to the public. At least that is what I was told. I've been asking for like 3 years.

when i was a sophmore or junior i specifically remember them selling purple wax Makers Mark at Winn Dixie during the football season

I doubt you will see anymore for sale commercially. You may be able to pick one up on ebay. I have 2 myself, but not selling.
I also doubt they will make anymore. They were not made for LSU. They were made for Minnesota Vikings as they made for most NFL teams that year. They were not selling in Minnesota, and someone suggestive bringing them to southern Louisiana.
