Here is a nugget that should put LSU's RPI/resume in perspective:

The average RPI of the teams that LSU beat in non-conference is 232. LSU's best non-conference win? The powerhouse Northwestern State Demons, with a current RPI of 98. The second best win? Seton Hall, RPI 116. LSU's non-conference schedule is killing them right now. I expect this to be remedied somewhat next year.

Also, as I have mentioned in the past few weeks, the SEC's conference RPI is 8...the SEC is the 8th best conference, just behind the Atlantic 10 and just ahead of the Missouri Valley. The SEC has sunk that low...3 bid league at best.

A source with inside knowledge of the situation says that we could host on Tuesday or Wednesday. The NCAA doesn't take over the place til late Thursday/early Friday.

pretty sure it will be the same scenario

Wonder if LSU ever considered the River Center downtown as an alternate site?

Still holding my breath hoping... I know that the womens NCAA tournament is Mar 24 and 26.

The first round of the NIT is Mar 19-20... Not sure they would allow it, but if we played on the 19th it would give them 4 days, which is plenty (I worked in PMAC for a year). I don't see any reason they couldn't host both.

If LSU wins 6 more straight (regular season and tourney) with wins over Missouri, Ole Miss, Bama, UK, and Florida and then loses a close championship game - LSU is at least on the bubble at 23-10.

don't know why that is such a hard concept to understand.

* I don't think that LSU will win all of those games, but LSU doesn't "have" to win the tourney.

But sites are not picked based on seeding. I think they are based on bids.

If true, then LSU lied last year when they used the women's tourney as an excuse not to submit a bid. I think many thought that was a bogus reason and they were more afraid of not having anyone show up for a first round game.

Would love to host a game this year.

I was going to ask about that. I thought I remember reading that this was the case. So question is will LSU bid for one?

Saying we have to win the Sec tournament to make the tourney is stupid.

No. It's telling the truth. There is nothing we can do from now to selection day that would get us an at-large bid. We play in a weak conference, have lots of bad losses and very few good wins.

Remember, we lost at home to South Carolina, one of the worst teams in the conference. We lost to Georgia, which won't sniff the tournament, to Auburn, which is almost as bad as Mississippi State and South Carolina. Of course, we also got blown out by Boise State, not exactly a powerhouse.

Even our won-lost record would not be all that amazing at 23-10 (best it can be without winning the SECT).

As much as we'd like to hope, there is no way we can get an at-large bid to the tournament. It's win the SEC Tournament or hello NIT.

While I don't believe we would get in without winning the SEC Tournament, this is 100% incorrect. There is still a small chance we could receive an at large bid if we won out excluding the SECCG.

Did you know that the SEC has 9 teams in RPI Top 100... Big 10 has 8, ACC has 7, Big 12 has 6.

Sometimes the government (or in this case, the LSU AD) has to protect us from ourselves. If LSU had hosted a first round NIT game last year, the PMAC would have been a morgue, which would have been a huge embarrassment. There was a lot of apathy among the fans and nobody would have turned out for that.

This year, there is a lot of excitement around the program, lots of positive vibes, and the team is fun to watch. I think the fans would jump on a chance to go to an NIT game. It reminds me of 2002 when we hosted Ball State and drew damn near 12,000 for an NIT game. If there is a want, the NIT can be a good event to host. Do I want to host one every year from here to eternity? Obviously not...but this year would be a good year to do it.

My belief is that the teams are seeded by the NIT people and the schools can host or not host. Each year, a lower seed has had to travel to a higher seed because they couldn't host for some reason.

If LSU is seeded high enough to host and doesn't get to due to the women's tournament, I think there should be an uproar. There is NO reason we shouldnt be able to host on Tuesday or Wednesday.

No reason to watch till sec tourny then. Nothing to discuss here. Speaking in facts makes you seem like you rarely watch sports.

See u in few weeks

Interesting...but I still stand by the fact that I posted earlier about our non-conference schedule being so poor...and about our average non-conference win having an RPI of 232.

If our non-conference resume' had ANYTHING of substance to it, I would think we would have a shot of making the NCAA's.

I still dont think LSU gets in withbout an SECChampionship but that doesn't mean it couldnt happen. Probably about a 20% shot if we won out excluding the final.

That sounds much better than saying our conference rpi is 8th.

Yea we have a few teams really pulling the average down, but the mid level to top is decent.

I would say this, if LSU wins out (which I think they have little chance of doing) and then make a run in the SECT they would definitely be a bubble team with a shot at getting in depending on what others do.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think that scenerio ends on Sat. Mizzou is very good at home.

For me, an NIT appereance this year would be a great first step for the program.
If CJJ can convince JOB to stick around for next year, this team WILL make the NCAA Tourney. Book it.

I really think it will be tough for LSU to win Saturday. You don't just go into Mizzou Arena and win on the reg. Will take the best game of our season to win.

I agree with this. Not only are they good at home, they have the added motivation of losing to us earlier. It could be ugly.
