I love how with this one tweet Junior Galette went from our best pure pass rusher the last couple of years and potential starting OLB next year, to basically a scrub backup in everyone's mind lol. Social media is amazing, and message boards or wonderful.

Im not saying that he is no good but he hasn't proven shite to be "insulted". Sorry that I'm not exactly cool with anyone who was a part of the worst defense in history complaining about being paid too little. Lol

Thats because it does not happen with this team. We are not dallas or other orgs where the players rule the roost. Let One do it then let all do it and see where that gets the team. Its not end of the world stuff but it is NOT characteristic of this org as it is now constructed.

Pro Football Focus
quote:

As with any base 3-4 defense, the team will look to the two OLB slots to generate a pass rush, and fortunately for the Saints, they already have two players on the roster that look to be well suited to the role in Martez Wilson and Junior Galette (who happens to be a restricted free agent). The defense should actually improve just by getting the two onto the field more, as both have shown an ability to get to the quarterback in situational roles. Each player ranked in the Top 15 in Pass Rushing Productivity among 4-3 ends who played at least 25% of their teams snaps, with Galette coming in as the fourth-most productive rusher. Of course, it remains to be seen whether the two can make the transition from situational rushers to full-time players at OLB, particularly in the case of Galette, who’s been used more traditionally as a defensive end than Wilson. Therefore, finding another edge rusher remains one of the Saints’ top needs this offseason.

Rotoworld
quote:

Saints DE/OLB Junior Galette says he is "very excited" about the team's switch to a 3-4 defense under Rob Ryan.

"Any transition (to outside linebacker) I would have to make would be smooth," Galette said. "God blessed me with the ability to move around, and I would be blessed to make that transition." Galette managed five sacks on just 26 percent of the snaps last season. He's viewed as one of the cornerstones to build on. Feb 22 - 3:42 PM

For comparison, Cameron Jordan got 8 sacks and Will Smith got 6 sacks. They played 91% and nearly 87% of the defensive snaps, respectively. I'm pretty sure that makes Galette a good potential building block for the defense.

Exactly what I've been saying. Everyone keeps saying we need pass rushers. That was true in our 4-3 defense, but switching to the 3-4 gets the 2 best pure pass rushers on the field full time. This alone upgrades that qb pressure a ton.

I was just calling him out for saying pay for injury scheme. This was after Vitt testified in court. I asked him if he was calling Vitt a liar. He didn't respond, so then I sent him what chad quoted.

no shite. it's funny how butthurt people are over his tweet saying they lowballed him and he feels disrespected. so the frick what? how is that a bad statement? yes he is wrong for making public what is supposed to be private negotiations, but the dude is young and doesn't know any better. now fools acting as if he is some scrub who doesn't belong on the team.

here's the deal. Juniah was our best pass rusher last season, and he has a ton of potential. he is a guy that should fit well in a 3-4, and he wants to be a Saint. they shouldn't pay him star money, but they should be paying the guy a decent salary. he has proven himself, and he is someone everyone wants (except for those angry at his tweet)

Well, if he thinks he's a $4mil a year player, cya. Dude can't expect that much. He hasn't proved enough yet. I could see us paying him maybe about $1 mil a year and that would probably be generous...

He's a "potential" starter, not guaranteed. Can't expect too much. 700k. Veteran minimum. Take it?

This is exactly what I'm saying. But I guess we're just "butthurt".

I just think this is a weird scenario for both the player and the team. Even though the saints have a very good idea about what galette can/will do, unfortunately it is only a small sample size. Sucks for galette because he's probably worth more, but the saints just can't afford to overpay on "probably". With the transition to 3-4, limited playing time, and his injury history, the saints just can't sign him to a larger long term contract. He'd be better off waiting till next year or signing a team friendly short term contract and renegotiate after this year. Put that language in there.
