I liked it but I didn't like it as much as i wanted to. It wasn't as engaging as some of his (PTA) other films but it was beautifully shot in my opinion. If Joaquin Phoenix ever deserved an Oscar it was in this film. That was as good a performance as I've ever seen.

would a 20 year old with a shitty attention span like it?

I mean, I loved Lincoln, but history and shite intrigues me.

The more you distance yourself from it, the more you realize how terrible it was and the more you realize how amazing PSH and Phoenix were in it. The movie is saved by PSH and Phoenix from being a complete disaster, but taken outside of their wonderful turns and interactions, the movie is flat. Just bad. Those 2 deserved the Oscar noms just for making the Master palatable enough to sit through one time.

As a 26 year old with a relatively decent attention span who watched the Master, I would not recommend it.

I thought it was awesome. Phoenix, Hoffman, and Adams delivered some of the best acting you will see between three actors. PTA probably had alot to do with that.

Phoenix is unlucky he had to go up against DDL or he probably would have won it. He really did give a Phenominal performance.

Well shite, now I don't know what to do. I was going to rent it on directv tonight. I love good acting, but I don't want to waste two hours if it's a shitty story.

I thought the acting was superb, the rest of the movie was just awful. The pacing was awful. I usually love PTA too

It's not a shitty story at all. It's just slow and ponderous at times but all of PTA's films are like that.

Like others have said, there are some great performances in the movie, but the story didn't really do much for me. I was a little disappointed that I wasn't more engaged by it.
