I don't salt water fish very much and in March i will be going to Grand Isle and we are getting a guided trip to go fish the Midnight Lump. It sounds awesome if you can get on the fish. Anybody have success out there? What should i expect?

Expect to catch a lot of sharks. The Lump is dead.

If you fish the lump 5 times, you'll catch MAYBE 2 Tuna, but the chances are better than average of one of those two being a real pig. You'll sit still for hours, chum a lot, weed through the sharks, look at a lot of nice boats parked around you, then pull chocks and go troll for wahoo at nearby rigs.

Unless you're retired with a nice boat, tons of time on your hands, and plenty of cash, I'd wait a couple months or try inshore.

If you can push the trip back some late April and May have great tuna action at the offshore rigs.

That won't happen it's for a bachelor party. As long as there is action i'll be satisfied. Doesn't necessarily have to be tuna.

You'll bend a rod all day for sure. Might get lucky and catch a couple monster yellowfin but you should definitely get some AJ's and maybe some blackfin.

I'd be happy with that. I've only been offshore fishing once in my life and all we caught were snapper.

I don't know if any of the other posters have been lately, like in the last month, but I have. It's not nearly as bad as they make it out to be. The big tuna are closer, I saw at least 6 over 100 lbs at the dock last Sunday. I'd be more concerned about the weather with all of these crazy fronts.

Weather man said we should be getting our last cold front this weekend so hopefully when we go in a couple of weeks we are good to go. Thanks for the update.

Was fishing there once and saw a whale swim right by the side of the boat, so that was cool.
